P. T. NORWOOD to EDMUND KERSEY- 1849 |
Whereas, a certain Deed was executed to me by EDMUND KERSEY dated
the 24th day of April 1849 which said deed conveyed to me and my
heirs a certain tract of land situated in Warren Co. State of North
Carolina consisting of one hundred and seventeen and half acres
(117½) on which the said KERSEY resided, lying on the Virginia line
and adjoining the lands of STEPHEN TURNER and others in trust to
secure payment of certain debts therein mention and whereas all of
said debts have been paid or satisfied in a manner satisfactory to
the creditors and whereas all of said creditors have authorised the
undersigned to execute a relieve to said KERSEY as to all other
property mention in said deed except that which all ready has been
disposed of. Now know all men by these presents that I, P. T.
NORWOOD have remised, relieved and ever quit claimed and by these
presents do remise, release, and forever quit claim unto the said
EDMUND KERSEY and his heirs and assigns all my right title and
interest in and to all of said land, which has not been sold by me
to STEPHEN TURNER and the portion there or sold by me to him will
fully appear by reference to the Deed from me to him dated sometime
in the month of February 1856. In testimony hereof I set my hand and
seal this 24th day of February 1856. P. T. NORWOOD State of North Carolina, Warren County June 16th 1857 The execution of this deed from P. T. NORWOOD to EDMUND KERSEY was duly acknowledged before me this day by the said P. T. NORWOOD. Therefore let this said Deed with this certificate be Registered. JOHN W. WHITE Clerk of W. C. PHILIP T. NORWOOD to ADAM GREEN- 1866 |
This Indenture, made and entered into this 22nd day of February in
the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty six,
between PHILIP T. NORWOOD of the County of Warren and State of North
Carolina of the first part, and ADAM GREEN, a free man of color,
sometimes called ADAM JONES, of the said County and State of the
second part, Witnesseth whereas the said PHILIP T. NORWOOD on the
28th day of December in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and fifty six did purchase from JOHN J. EADES, a certain
tract or parcel of land which is thus described in the deed from the
said JOHN J. EADES to him to with "one certain tract or parcel of
land situate lying and being near the Town of Warrenton, in this
County of Warren, and immediately, on the road leading to Ridgway
and adjoining the lands of JOHN W. WHITE, and said JOHN J. EADES,
and bounded as follows, to wit, beginning at a corner stake on the
North side of the Ridgway Road, thence Northwardly along JOHN J.
EADE's line to a corner stake on the North side of said EADE's line,
thence Eastwardly along said WHITE's line to a corner stake near the
ridge path, thence Southwardly along a line of marked trees, WHITE's
line to the said road, thence Westwardly along said road to the
beginning, containing five acres of land, together with all the
appurtenances and improvements thereto belonging , as will more
fully appear by reference to the deed from the said JOHN J. EADES,
to the said PHILIP T. NORWOOD dated on the day and year last
aforesaid, and registered in Warren County in the 23rd day of
November, in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
fifty nine, And whereas the said PHILIP T. NORWOOD holds said land
not for his own benefit but as trustee for the said ADAM GREEN and
is willing to make the legal title to him. Now this Indenture
witnesseth that the said PHILIP T. NORWOOD for and in consideration
of the premises, and the further consideration of the sum of one
dollar to him in hand paid by the said ADAM GREEN, before the
sealing and delivery of this deed, hath bargained, sold and
conveyed, and by these presents doth bargain, sell and convey unto
the said ADAM GREEN and his heirs and assigns forever, the said
tract or parcel of land. In testimony whereof, the said PHILIP T.
NORWOOD hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first
above written. P. T. NORWOOD Witness JNO C. McCRAW North Carolina Warren County Office of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions March the 5th A.D. 1867 The execution of this Deed by P. T. NORWOOD, is this day proved before me, WILLIAM A. WHITE, Clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of said County, by the oath and examination of JOHN C. McCRAW, the only subscribing witness thereto. Therefore let the said deed and this certificate be registered. Fifty cents United States Revenue Stamps affixed to this deed and cancelled according to WILLIAM A. WHITE Clerk of Warren County Court Duly Registered the 5th day of March A.D. 1867. ISHAM H.
