MICHAEL W. PASCHALL to ROBERT H.M. PASCHALL-
1859 |
This Indenture made and entered into this the 17th day of May A.D.
1859. Between MICHAEL W. PASCHALL of the County of Warren & State of
North Carolina of the one part, and ROBERT H. M. PASCHALL of the
County of Granville & State aforesaid of the second part, Witnesseth
that whereas the said MICHAEL W. PASCHALL is justly indebted to the
following persons Viz to MRS. MAXWELL in a Note for $ __[blank] &
interest from Nov 1857 to ALFRED ALSTON in a Note given to WM
KEARNEY for $___ and interest from _____ to CHEATHAM HANOLL in
certain bonds executed by said MICHAEL PASCHALL the amts not
remembered, CHEATHAM & MOORE in certain notes amt not remembered to
THOMAS A. MONTGOMERY in note for $312.94 & interest from the date of
this instrument, DORMANS' & JOHNSON in open a/c amt not remembered
MARTIN BRO & Co. in note for $____ JACOB AUGUST in note not
recollected & to JOHN WHITE in Note amt not recollected. And whereas
the said MICHAEL W. PASCHALL is desirous of securing the payment of
the aforesaid claims, Now therefore in consideration of the premises
& in further consideration of the sum of one dollar to him in hand
paid by the said R.H.M. PASCHALL the receipt of which is hereby
acknowledged, I the said MICHAEL PASCHALL hath bargained & sold & do
by these presents bargain, sell & convey unto the aforesaid R. H. M.
PASCHALL, the following property: to wit; The tract of land on which
I now live known as the home tract & containing by estimation 348
acres, also a tract or parcel of lands, known as the WALKER tract &
containing by estimation 86 acres lying on Malons Creek, also the
following Negro slaves, Viz: EDMUND, PLUMMER, JOHN, JIM, WILL,
HAL, REBECCA, MARY, HENRY, SALLIE, & RODY ANN, being the Negroes
I have at home. Also all my crop, stock & provisions I have on hand,
plantation tools, house hold & kitchen furniture, two wagons, one
carriage, & harness, one buggy & harness. To him the said R. H. M.
PASCHALL his heirs, executors, administrators & assigns forever. In
special trust and confidence however, that unless the aforementioned
debts shall be paid off & satisfied before the first day of next
January & in that case the aforesaid R. H. M. PASCHALL is directed
to sell to the highest bidder, on the premises all the
aforementioned property which he may not have sold privately for a
goo & fair price which he is at liberty to do before that time but
making such public sale he shall first advertise the same at the
courthouse door & at 3 other public places in the county of Warren
aforesaid, that he shall first sell the land, and if that should not
be sufficient he shall then sell the perishable property & enough of
the Negroes, and the proceeds arising from the sales he shall apply
to the payment of the aforementioned debts & after paying the same
he shall pay all & every claim presented which the said Trustee
thinks just & honest, and if after paying all the aforementioned
debts & all other claims which in estimation of the Trustee is just
& also the cost of this trust & reasonable compensation to the
trustee for his trouble. There should be a surplus in the hands of
the trustee then the said trustee R. H. M. PASCHALL shall pay the
same over to the said MICHAEL W. PASCHALL of the first part. In
witness whereof I the aforesaid MICHAEL W. PASCHALL have hereunto

JOHN PEARSON to HARDY RICHARDSON- 1834 |
This Indenture made this 14th day of April A.D. 1833 between JOHN
PEARSON of the County of Warren and State of No. Carolina of the one
part and HARDY RICHARDSON of the County of Halifax and State
aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that I the said JOHN PEARSON
for and in consideration of the sum of Seventy five dollars lawful
money of the United State to him in hand paid by the said HARDY
RICHARDSON the rec't of I the said JOHN PEARSON do hereby
acknowledge and I myself satisfied- have granted, bargained, sold,
alienated and delivered unto the said HARDY RICHARDSON & to his
heirs or assigns one certain tract and parcel of land- situate,
lying and being in the aforesaid County of Warren and State
aforesaid and on the head waters of Hawtree Creek, to wit- Beginning
in a black oak in CHS. MARSHALL's corner & in County line- thence
west his line to his and HENRY SOUTHALL's corner- thence his line
South to his and STEPHEN MARSHALL's corner- thece MARSHALL's line
east to the said County line- thence the County line to the
beginning- containing Fifty acres be the same more or less with all
the right, title, privileges, profits & improvements in any manner
or way whatsoever thereunto belonging or appertaining and I the said
JOHN PEARSON for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators and
assigns do grant, bargain, sell and set??? alienate, release and
confirm, unto the said HARDY RICHARDSON his heirs, extrs, admnrs &
assigns the afores'd granted land and premises to their only proper
use and behoof and I the said JOHN PEARSON afors'd for myself, my
heirs, do warrant and defend the afores'd land to be free and clear
of any lawful claim or claims of any other person or persons
whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal

AMOS PETTIFORD to ALFRED & JOHN ARTIST- 1860 |
This Indenture made this the 27th November 1860, between AMOS
PETTIFORD of the County of Warren & State of North Carolina, and
ALFRED ARTIST and JOHN ARTIST, both of the County of Halifax & State
aforesaid parties of the second part, Witnesseth that the said party
of the first part, is justly indebted to the said ALFRED ARTIST &
JOHN ARTIST in sum of one thousand dollars, due by bond, due and
payable the date of these presents, Now therefore, this Indenture
witnesseth, that the said AMOS PETTIFORD in consideration of the
premises and the further sum of one dollar to him in hand paid by
the party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged, and for the further consideration that the said party
of the first part, the said AMOS PETTIFORD is desirous to secure and
pay the same, the debt above mentioned hath bargained, sold and
delivered unto the said party of the second part, one Rockaway and
harness, one horse and mule, fifteen head of cattle, forty barrels
of corn, and twenty five head of hogs, one wagon, six stacks of
fodder, all his household and kitchen furniture of every
description, farming utensils, and all the right, title and
interest, property possession, claim and demand whatsoever, as well
at law, as in equity of the said party of the first part, of in or
to that parcel of land on which he now lives, situate and being in
Warren County, adjoining the lands of SOL STALLINGS, SAM'L DAVIS &
others, containing by estimation one hundred acres and every part
and parcel thereof with the appurtenances. To have and to hold all
and singular the above mentioned and described property together
with the appurtenances unto the said ALFRED ARTIST and JOHN ARTIST
their heirs and assigns. Now the said parties agree that in case the
above sum of one thousand dollars is not paid or otherwise
satisfactorily secured on or before the first day of January 1861,
then in that case the said parties of the second part or assigns -
may take into possession the above mentioned property and expose the
same to public sale at the Court House in Warrenton, upon giving ten
days Notice of the same, and sell the whole or any part thereof for
cash at their discretion and retain a sufficient amount out of the
proceeds to pay and satisfy the above mentioned debt and all
reasonable costs attending these proceedings, the execution of this
deed included. In witness whereof the said party of the first part,
the said AMOS PETTIFORD hath set his hand and seal, the day and date

WESTLEY PETTIFORD to ISHAM MILLS- 1835 |
This Indenture made this 1 day of October in the year of Our Lord
One thousand eight hundred and thirty five (1835) between WESTLEY
PETTERFORD of the County of Warren & State of North Carolina of the
one part & ISOM MILLS of the County & State aforesaid of the other
part, Witnesseth that the said WESLEY PETTERFORD for and in
consideration of the sum of Seventeenteen dollars to him in hand
paid thi day by ISAM MILLS before the sealing and delivering of thse
presents, the right of which the said WESLEY PETTEFORD doth hereby
acknowledge & himself fully satisfied, constituted & paid, hath this
day given, granted, bargained & by these presents, doth absolutely
give, grant, bargain, sell, deliver, confirm & fully convey unto the
aid ISOM MILLS & his heirs forever, a certain tract or parcel of
land, containing four acres more or less, situated, lying and being
in the county of Warren, joining the lands of JAMES WORTHAM,
NATHANIEL BROWN & JAMES G. RUDD, running as follows beginning at the
old road and running to WORTHAM's corner on the east side of said
RUDD thenche with said WORTHAM's line by marked trees to said RUDDS
& thence up said RUDDS o the beginning adjoining the lands of
NATHANIEL BROWN & said JAMES RUDD.To have and to hold the aforesaid
land and all the premises thereto belonging or in anywise
appertaining unto the said ISAM MILLS to him and his heirs and
assigns forever. And said WESLEY PETTERFORD for himself his heirs
and assigns doth hereby covenant &c grant to and with the said ISAM
MILLS that he will warrant & defend the right & title to the said

PETER D. POWELL, J.Y. CHRISTMAS to RICHARD
CHRISTMAS- 1861 |
Know all men by these presents that we PETER D. POWELL of the County
of WARREN State of North Carolina and JAMES Y. CHRISTMAS of the
County of Isaguna [Issaquena] in the State of Mississippi for and in
consideration of the sum of Twenty five hundred Dollars to us in
hand paid by RICHARD CHRISTMAS of the County of Isaguna in the State
of Mississippi, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have
this day bargained, sold and conveyed and by these presents do
bargain, sell and convey all of our right, title and interest of
every description both vested and contingent in and to the following
slaves and their increase to wit, CHANY, ALFRED, AGNESS, ISAAC,
JOSEPH, MANERVA, JINSEY, HILLIARD, WILLIS AUGUSTUS and THOMAS,
WESLEY and TONEY to the said RICHARD CHRISTMAS heirs and assigns
forever. The said Negroes are now in Warren County, North Carolina
and were bequeathed by the last will and testament of MRS. JANE
GREEN the Grandmother of JAMES Y. CHRISTMAS to LEWIS Y. CHRISTMAS
for the use and benefit of her son WILLIAM D. CHRISTMAS during his
lifetime and after the death of the said WILLIAM D. CHRISTMAS were
given to the said JAMES Y. CHRISTMAS. The interest of the said JAMES
Y. CHRISTMAS has conveyed to the said PETER D. POWELL, by THOMAS H.
CHRISTMAS by virtue of a Power of Attorney as will now fully appear
by reference to the Bill of Sale registered in Warren County, North
Carolina. Now in order to make a more perfect title to the above
mentioned Slaves the said PETER D. POWELL and JAMES Y. CHRISTMAS for
and in consideration of the promises hereby bind themselves, their
heirs, executors and Administrators that they will forever warrant,
and defend the title of the said Negroes hereby conveyed unto the
said RICHARD CHRISTMAS his heirs, executors and administrators
forever. In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and

SARAH POWELL to PETER R. DAVIS- 1833 |
This Indenture made the 17th day of February in the Year 1833
between SARAH POWELL of the County of Warren & State of No. Carolina
of the one part and PETER R. DAVIS of the County and State aforesaid
of the other part Witnesseth that the said SARAH POWELL for and in
consideration of the sum of Five dollars to her in hand paid by him
the said P. R. DAVIS before the sealing & delivery of these presents
the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained &
sold to the said PETER R. DAVIS his heirs executors, administrators
forever the following Negro Slaves & their future increase- viz
SOOKY, BOB, JEFF, MARIAH, SAM & HARRIET all of which said
Negroes are nevertheless conveyed to said P. R. DAVIS his heirs exrs,
admrs. in Trust for the following purposes to wit- whereas the above
named SARAH POWELL is just indebted to RICHARD DAVIS in the sum of
Five Hundred and Sixty three dollars 15¢ which will appear by her
Bond bearing date with these presents, with Interest from the date-
Now therefore this Indenture further witnesseth that it shall and
may be lawful for the said PETER R. DAVIS his heirs, exrs or admrs
when directed by the said RICHARD DAVIS his heirs, exrs, or admrs to
sell the before named Negroes or so many thereof as shall be
sufficient to satisfy and pay off the before mention debt due RICHD.
DAVIS together with all interest, cert & charges that may receive in
carrying the same into effect & the balance of the money arising
from the sale of said Negroes if any to be paid over to the said
SARAH POWELL. In witness whereof the said SARAH POWELL hath hereunto
set her hand and seal the day and date above written. SARAH POWELL Witness WM. M. ROBERT C. PRITCHARD to JACOB PARKER- 1859 |
This Indenture made and entered into this the (13) thirteenth day of
January in the year of Our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and fifty
nine between ROBERT C. PRITCHARD, of Warren County the State of
North Carolina of the first part, and JACOB PARKER of said County
and State of the second part. Witnesseth, that the said ROBERT C.
PRITCHARD for and in consideration of the sum of Three Thousand and
Six hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said JACOB PARKER
before the execution of the deed the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged, hath bargained, sold, and conveyed, and by these
presents doth bargain, sell, and convey unto the said JACOB PARKER
and his heirs and assigns forever, a certain lot or parcel of land,
situate, lying, and being in the Town of Warrenton, in the County of
Warren and the State of North Carolina and bounded on the East by
Main Street, on the North and West by the Presbyterian Church, and
the lands of JULIUS WILCOX, and on the South by the Male Academy
Lot, and the lot of CHARLES SKINNER and containing between two and
three acres. To have and to hold the said lot or parcel of land,
unto the said JACOB PARKER his heirs and assigns forever. In
testimony whereof, the said ROBERT C. PRITCHARD hath hereunto set
