LEONARD H. SIMS to JACOB, THOMAS, WINIFRED & TEMPERANCE DAVIS-1809

This Indenture made this third day of November in the year of our Lord 1806 between Leonard H. Sims of the County of Warren and state of North Carolina of the one part and Jacob Davis, Thomas Davis, Winifred Davis and Temperance Davis of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Leonard H. Sims for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand four hundred dollars, current money of the United States, to him in hand paid by the said Jacob Davis, John Davis, Thomas Davis, Winifred Davis and Temperance Davis the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, sold and conveyed and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto the said Jacob, John, Thomas, Winifred and Temperance Davis, their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever in fee simple the following tract or parcel of land, situate, lying and being in the County of Warren, containing by estimation four hundred acres, more or less, and bounded as follows, Viz. beginning at a maple on the west side of Smith's Branch and William Sims’ corner, thence north along his line to a post oak in the said Simon Williams Sr.’s line, thence east to two hickory, Jacob Davis’ corner, thence south along his and Anthony Sales line, thence south along his line to a pine, thence west along Thomas Sims’ line to a white oak John Sims and Thomas Sims corner, thence to a post oak on the branch at the lower side of the sawmill, thence down the branch as it meanders to the beginning, together with all the improvements and appurtenances there unto belonging or in anywise appertaining, and the said Leonard H. Sims doth for himself, his heirs, executors and administrators covenant and agree to and with the said Jacob Davis, John Davis, Thomas Davis, Winifred Davis and Temperance Davis, their heirs, executors and administrators that he has just and lawful right to the aforesaid premises and can lawfully grant and bargain and sell the same and that he will warrant and forever defend the same against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever in witness whereof the said Leonard H. Sims hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and date first above written.

XANTHUS SNOW to BLAKE BAKER-1822

Know all men by these presents, that I XANTHUS SNOW of the County of Warren, for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand three hundred dollars to me in hand paid by BLAKE BAKER at and before the delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have bargained, sold and delivered and by these presents do bargain, sell and deliver unto said BLAKE BAKER the following Negro Slaves, to wit, BOB, CREASY, POLLY and HARRIET, to have and to hold the said Slaves to the only proper use and behoof of him the said BAKER the right and title to the said Negroes I hereby covenant and agree to warrant and defend. It is understood that the Negroes hereby bargained and sold are to remain in his possession untill the first day of December next. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27th day of September A.D. 1821.

JAMES SOMERVILL to REBECCA BREHON- 1854

Know all men by these presents that I JAMES SOMERVILL of the County of Warren and the State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I bear unto my granddaughter REBECCA BREHON of the County and State aforesaid and the further consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid before the execution of this deed by her, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, and also for divers other causes and considerations me hereunto moving have given, granted, bargained and sold, and by these do give, grant, bargain and sell unto the said REBECCA BREHON, her Executors, Administrators and assigns, to wit, FANNY and all of her children subject nevertheless to the limitation mentioned below. If the said REBECCA BREHON shall die without leaving lawful issue living at the time of her death, then and in that case I give all of said slaves with their future increase from the date of this deed, to her next of kin on the side of her deceased father, her mother's relations to take no part thereof, in the event of her death without issue as aforesaid, and I do hereby declare it to be my meaning and intent that if she should die without leaving issue as above mentioned, said slaves are to be disposed of, with all of their increase, among her next of kin on her father's side exclusively, and I do hereby declare that I use the expression "next of kin" in the sense of the Act of Assembly concerning the distribution concerning intestates estate with the distinct understanding however that no one is to take upon the happening of the contingency above mentioned, who who is not one of my descendants. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 13th day of April A.D. 1854.
