THOMAS T. WALKER to BENJAMIN E. COOK- 1848 |
This indenture made this 28th day of January 1848
between Thomas P. Walker of the County of Warren and state of North
Carolina of one part, and Benjamin E. Cook of the town of Warrenton,
in this said county and state of the other part: were as James K.
Mayfield, James S. Walker and John H. Hawkins this day he became
security for said Thomas P. Walker to three lands for $900 each
payable to Henry L. Plummer and Kemp Plummer, executors of William
Falkener and one, two and three years, and each of said lands
carrying interest from the first day of this month, all which will
more fully appear by reference to said bonds, and he be aforesaid
Thomas P. Walker being honestly the desirous to --- to the bonds
aforesaid from having to pay the said bonds or any part thereof. Now
this indenture witnessed, that for and in consideration of the
premises together with the further sum of 1 dollar to him in hand
paid by the said Benjamin E. Cook the receipt whereof is hereby
knowledge in fall, he the said Thomas P. Walker, hath granted,
bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell
unto the said Benjamin E. Cook a certain tract of land lying and
being in the County of Warren and state aforesaid, being the land on
which said Thomas P. Walker now resides, containing 900 acres, more
or less, bounded either lands of James Hawks, Jesse C. Perkinson,
William Mustain and others and is the land purchased by said Thomas
P. Walker of the executors of 1 and said of William Falkener, two
having to hold the said land and premises hereditaments,
improvements, privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging or in
anywise appertaining, to him the said Benjamin E. Coke his heirs,
executors and administrators in fee simple for ever, free and
discharged of any and all encumbrances whatsoever also the following
Negro slaves, to wit, Martha, Fanny, Creasy and Isaac:
in special trust and confidence nevertheless and for the following
purposes, that is to stay that when either of the bonds aforesaid
become due and shall remain unpaid by the said Thomas P. Walker, or
any part thereof, then the and in that case it shall and may be
lawful for the said Benjamin E. Cook his heirs, executors,
administrators and assigns when bear unto required by either of the
securities aforesaid, to sell the property aforesaid land and
Negroes, first giving twenty days notice by advertisement of the
time and place of selling the same for cash, and out of the proceeds
of said sale retained the usual and necessary expenses of this
trust, then pay and discharged the bonds aforesaid that are due and
the others as they made become due and made over plus if any, after
so doing to be paid over to the said Thomas P. Walker his executors
and administrators. In testimony whereof the said Thomas P. Walker
and Benjamin E. Cook trustees have hereunto set their hand and seals

JOHN W. WEST or EVANS to HENRY PATTERSON- 1836 |
This Indenture made this 5th day of January One thousand eight
hundred and thirty six JOHN W. EVANS, alias, WEST of the County of
Warren and State of North Carolina of the one part and HENRY
PATERSON of the aforesaid county and State of the other part
witnesseth that the said EVANS, alias WEST, hath for and in
consideration of the sum two hundred and seventy dollars to him in
hand paid by the said PATTERSON, granted bargained sold and conveyed
unto him the said PATTERSON all the right title and interest which I
the said EVANS, alias WEST, have in and to a certain tract or parcel
of land lying and being in the aforesaid County of Warren on the
waters of big Rocky Branch and adjoining the lands of PETER R.
DAVIS, WILLIAM C. WILLIAMS and others, beginning at a white oak
DAVIS line running west along a line of marked trees to WILLIAMS'
line, thence north to MARSHALLS corner, on a post oak then east
along MARSHALL's line to DAVIS corner, a black oak, black gum &
dogwood, then south along DAVIS' line to the beginning. Containing
seventy eight acres more or less, to have and to hold the above
bargained premises, with all and singular the appurtenances
thereunto belonging to him the said HENRY PATERSON his heirs and
assigns forever, and I the said JOHN W. WEST doth by these presents
bind myself, my heirs Executors Admrs & assigns to warrant and
defend a good and lawful title to the land above conveyed to the
aforesaid PATERSON his heirs and assigns forever against the claim
or claims of all persons whatsoever in witness whereof I the said
JOHN W. EVANS, alias WEST, have hereunto set my hand and seal the

SUSANA WEST to JIM VERSER & YOUNG CLANTON- 1870 |
This indenture made this 5th day of July in year Eighteen hundred
and Seventy between SUSANA WEST of the County of Warren, and State
of N. Carolina of the first part and JAMES VERSER and YOUNG CLANTON
of the aforesaid County and State of the second part; Witnesseth
that the said party of the first part, for and in consideration of
the sum of one hundred and twenty three ($123.00) dollars, the
receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, has given, granted
bargained, sold and conveyed and does hereby give grant, bargain,
sell and convey to the said party of the second part, that is to say
to the said JAMES VERSER and YOUNG CLANTON during their lifetime,
and then to the heirs of the said YOUNG CLANTON, all that tract of
land on which I now reside, suppose to contain one hundred and
twenty acres (120) more or less the lines and boundaries of which
will be fully known by reference to the old deeds, to have and to
hold the same, whith appurtenances thereunto belonging, and the said
SUSANA WEST, for and in consideration aforesaid does hereby covenant
and agree to warrant and defend the premises aforesaid to the said
part of the second part against the claims of all persons
whatsoever. In witness whereof the security of the first part has
hereunto set her hand and seal, on the day and year within written. The two men, who were former slaves, had also been bequeathed the land in her will, but according to the petition from the Executor, the land had been deeded for the purpose of defrauding her creditors, for which the Court agreed.) |

Know all men by these presents that I WILLIAM WEST of Warren County
and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the sum of
the sum of[sic] two hundred Dollars to me in hand paid by MOURNING
EVANS the receipt of which I do hereby acknowledge have this day
given granted sold and delivered to the said MOURNING one Negro man
named NAT about forty two years old to her only proper use
and behoof for ever and I the said WM WEST for myself my heirs Excrs.
administrators or assigns do warrant and defend the said Negro
NAT to be free and clear of any manner of Incumbrance whatsoever
or from the lawfull claim or claims of any person or persons
whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal

JOHN WHITE to MILES BOBBITT- 1854 |
Know all men by these presents that I JOHN WHITE of the County of
Warren and State of North Carolina have this day bargained and sold
to MILES BOBBITT of the same County and State for and in
consideration of the sum of Eleven hundred dollars to me in hand
paid by the said MILES BOBBITT the receipt of which is hereby
acknowledged the following Negroes (vizt) WINNY a woman and
her two children ABBY & SUSAN together with them future
increase the right and title to the said Negroes the said JNO WHITE
binds himself and his heirs executors, administrators and assigns to
warrant and defend to him the said MILES BOBBITT and his heirs
forever against the claim or claims of all persons whatsoever in
witness whereof I the said JNO WHITE hereunto set my hand and seal

This Indenture made & executed the 4th day of June A.D. 1852 Between
JOHN W. WHITE, & MATHEW GUY, both of the County of Warren & State of
North Carolina Witnesseth that the said JOHN W. WHITE, for and in
consideration of the sum of fifty dollars to him in hand paid by the
said MATHEW GUY, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath
given, granted, bargained & sold & by these presents doth give,
grant, bargain & sell, & deliver unto the said MATHEW GUY his heirs
& assigns forever, one certain lot or parcel of land situated, lying
and being, in said county & bounded as follows (to wit) Beginning at
WM. R. MOUNTCASTLE's South east corner, thence Northwardly along his
line to his North East corner, thence Eastwardly seventy yards to a
corner stake thence Southwardly seventy yards to a corner stake in
BURROWS (now COOK's line) thence Westwardly along his line to the
beginning containing one acre of land the right and title of said
land I bind myself &c to warrant and forever defend unto the said

This Indenture made and entered into this 24th day of January A.D.
1859 between GENERAL P. WILKINS and THOMAS GREEN of the County of
Warren and State of North Carolina of the first part and WILLIAM
BOBBITT of the County and State aforesaid of the second part,
Witnesseth, whereas the said G. P. WILKINS is justly indebted to
JOHN BOBBITT by Judgement in Warren County Court, in the sum of Two
hundred dollars, with interest on Two hundred dollars, from the 23rd
day of February 1858, the payment whereof together with all costs he
is anxious to secure and whereas the said THOMAS GREEN is desirous
to aid him therein. Now this Indenture, witnesseth that the said
parties of the first part for and in consideration of the premises
and the further consideration of the sum of one dollar to him in
hand paid by the said party of the second part before the execution
of this deed, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have
bargained, sold and conveyed and by these presents do bargain, sell
and convey unto the said party of the second part, and his heirs and
assigns a certain tract of land, in the County and State aforesaid,
containing about forty eight acres, and bounded as follows:
beginning at a stake near the Spring branch having elm and pine
pointers, running North 83 West 17 chains to a stake, having a pine
and persimmon pointers, being the corner between JOHN T. KEARNEY's
lot No. 6, and EMILY LONG's lot No. 7 and running thence South 23
deg,. West 26 chains to a stake in LUCAS LANCASTER's line, having
three post oaks and a black jack pointers, thence South 50½ East to
three black jacks a corner in J. B. POWELL's line thence North 23
deg. East 34 chains to a stake near the Spring Branch or place of
beginning. In trust nevertheless and for the purposes hereinafter
declared, it shall be lawful for the said WILLIAM BOBBITT whenever
he shall be requested so to do by the said JOHN BOBBITT to sell said
tract of land at the Court House door in Warrenton upon a credit of
six months, having first advertised the sale for at least two months
at said Court House door, and at three or more public places said
County, and with the proceeds of the sale, after deducting his
commissions and reasonable expenses, he is to pay the full amount of
said judgment as to debt, interest and costs, and if any surplus
shall remain in his hands. After the satisfaction of the same he is
to pay said surplus to the said THOMAS GREEN or to his order. In
testimony whereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto

WILSON WILKINS to E. KATZENSTEIN- 1875 |
I, WILSON WILKINS of the County of Warren in the State of North
Carolina, am indebted to EMIL KATZENSTEIN of Warrenton in Warren
County in said State, in the sum of Seventy five Dollars, for which
he holds my note to be due on the first day of August A.D. 1875, and
to secure the payment of the same I do hereby convey to him the
payment of the same I do hereby convey to him these articles of
personal property, to wit, two steers, one cart, three cows, one
yearling and one calf. But on this special trust, And if I fail to
pay said debt and interest on or before the first day of August A.D.
1875 then he may sell said property, or so much thereof as may be
necessary by Public Auction for case, first giving twenty days
notice at three public places and apply the proceeds of such sale to
the discharge of said debt and interest on the same and pay any
surplus to me. Given under my hand and seal this 22nd day of April

This Indenture made this Fifty day of December in the year of Our
Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety six between BILLEY WILLIAMS
of the County of the County of Warren & State of No. Carolina of the
one part & JOEL LANCASTER of s'd State & County of the other part
witnesseth that the said BILLEY WILLIAMS for & in consideration of
the sum of Forty Five pounds specie to him in hand paid by the JOEL
LANCASTER the receipt whereof he the sd WILLIAMS doth hereby
acknowledge hath granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth
hereby grant bargain & sell into the s'd JOEL LANCASTER his heirs &
assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying &
being in the County of Warren on the No. side of the old House
Branch & bounded as follows vizt, begining at JOHN LANCASTER's line
on PERSON's road thence down sd road by a line of marked trees to
old House Branch thence down sd branch to JORDAN HARRIS line thence
along HARRIS line to a white oak on HARRIS & LANCASTER's corner
thence along LANCASTER's line to the begining containing by
estimation of ninety acres be the same more or less together with
all woods under woods profits & comodities appurtenances whatsoever
to the same belonging or in any ways appertaining as also the
reversion & reversions remainder & remainders rents & services
thereof & every part & parcel thereof with all interest claim &
demand whatsoever of him the sd BILLEY WILLIAMS of in & to the sd
land tenements & appurtenances above mention & every part thereof to
have & to hold the s'd Land & premises & every part & parcel thereof
into the JOEL LANCASTER his heirs & assigns forever the sd BILLEY
WILLIAMS for himself & his heirs the sd land & premises & every part
thereof against from & his heirs & assigns all & every other person

JONES WILLIAMS to RICHARD RUSSELL- 1805 |
Know all men by these presents that I JONES WILLIAMS of Warren
County and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the
sum of one hundred and forty pounds current money of Virginia to him
in hand paid by RICHARD RUSSELL of the County and State aforesaid
the receipt whereof the said JONES WILLIAMS doth hereby acknowledge
himself satisfy'd hath bargained sold and delivered and by these
presents doth absolutely bargain sell and deliver unto the said
RICH'D RUSSELL his heirs and assigns forever four Negroes to wit
FILLIS a woman aged about 30 years, old AMEY a woman aged
about Twenty, EMANUEL a boy aged about 10 months old and
TOM a Negro man aged about fifty years; and the said JONES
WILLIAMS doth for himself his heirs Exc'rs administrators and
assigns warrant and forever defend the right and title of the above
Negroes unto the said RICHARD RUSSELL his heirs &c to be free and
clear of all incumbrance whatsoever. In trust nevertheless to secure
the payment of the above sum of one hundred and forty pounds
Virginia money on or before the 25 day of December next at which
time if the said sum of money is unpaid it shall be & is hereby
declared lawfull by the said JONES WILLIAMS for the said RICHARD
RUSSELL to advertise the said property hereby convey'd giving twenty
days notice of sale and sell the same for the best price that can be
had in cash and pay himself the aforesaid sum of one hundred and
forty pounds Virginia money as afores'd and all charges for
recording this trust &c and the overplus if any pay to the said
JONES WILLIAMS his heirs &c In testamony whereof the parties to
these presents have here unto set these hands & seals the 24th day

To all to whom these presents may concern, Know ye that I, SOLOMON
WILLIAMS of the County of Warren & State of North Carolina, for and
in consideration of the natural love and affection I have & do bear
unto my granddaughters TEMPERANCE BODDIE WILLIAMS & URINA[sic]
WILLIAMS and a further consideration of five shillings to me in hand
paid by them, hath given, granted bargained & sold and do by these
presents give grant bargain sell and make over unto my said
granddaughters TEMPERANCE B. WILLIAMS & RUINA JUDKINS WILLIAMS the
following Negroes, viz to TEMPERANCE B. WILLIAMS one Negro Girl
PENNEY aged about thirteen years, to RUINA JUDKINS WILLIAMS one
Negro Girl named GRACE about eight years old, which said
Negroes are now in the possession of MR. RICHARD BURT and to be
delivered to them at the decease of my Mother, wife of the said
RICH'D BURT, & I do hereby warrant and forever defend the said
Negroes to my said granddaughters & their heirs &c forever free from
the lawfull claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever. This Indenture made the 29th day of August A.D. 1859 between WILLIAM
B. WILLIAMS of the first part, and WILIE LOWERY of the second part,
all of the County of Warren and State of North Carolina, Witnesseth
that the said WILLIAM B. WILLIAMS for and in consideration of the
sum of Twenty five Dollars to him in hand paid by said LOWERY the
receipt whereof, is hereon acknowledged has bargained, and by these
presents doth grant, bargain, sell and deliver to the said LOWERY
his heirs and assigns forever a certain piece of land lying on the
East side of the road from Warrenton to the Depot and bounded as
follows, Beginning at the N.E. corner of a single acre formerly
owned by R. T. ARRINGTON and running due E. 15 pole 9 links to a
stone, then E 43 N to said Road. Then along said road to ARRINGTON's
line then along ARRINGTON's line to the beginning containing one
acres To have and to hold forever with all and every the
appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining. And I
the said WILLIAM B. WILLIAMS do hereby covenant to and with the said
LOWERY, that I have before the execution of this deed, full right,
absolute and lawful authority, to sell the said land, and agree
hereby to warrant and forever defend the right and title of the same

This Indenture made
this 11 day of January in the year of our lord one thousand eight
hundred and five between HARTWELL WILSON of the State of North
Carolina, Rutherford County of the one part and THOMAS GARDNER of
the State aforesaid and County of Warren of the other part
Witnesseth that the said HARTWELL WILSON for and in consideration of
the sum of six pounds Virginia currency in hand paid at or before
the delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said HARTWELL
WILSON doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained & sold enfeoff
and confirmed to THOMAS GARDNER his heirs & assigns forever al the
tract of land willed to me by my grandfather WILLIAM WILSON lying
and being in the County of Warren & State of North Carolina bounded
as followeth beginning at a stake the corner of a lot drawn by
ELIZABETH TOLSON then a west course to my line thence a south course
to my line a branch thence along the branch east to a corner thence
north to the beginning containing by estimation 33 acres together
with all the appertainances thereunto belonging and I the said
HARTWELL WILSON doth further bind myself my heirs Executors &
admininstrators or assigns to warrant to warrant and defend the good
