James Maddray and Thomas Ward arrived in Virginia in the 1670s. James Maddray lived in Isle of Wight County and Thomas Ward in Surry County. Zachariah Maddray, son of James, relocated to Surry County and had a large posterity there. Thomas Ward’s children moved to Isle of Wight County. In the third generation after their arrival, James Maddray married Ann Ward and relocated to Granville County, North Carolina. Ann (Ward) Maddray married secondly Randolph Hazelwood about 1762. |
