Will of George D. Baskerville – Warren Co., NC  WB 49 pages 426, 427 – 1862

Being of sound mind and memory, I do make this my last will and testament, revoking all others heretofore made by me ~

I devise to my son JOHN W the amount of his indebtedness to me, that being all I design to give him.

I devise to my son GEORGE D. the amount of his indebtedness to me, that being all I design to give him.

To my wife MARY W, and my daughters, DELHA, ROBERTA, LUCY, ISABELLA & OCTAVIA, I give and bequeath all the residue of my estate, both real and personal, to be divided among them in equal proportions ~ to them and their heirs forever.

I authorize my executor, hereinafter appointed, at his discretion, to sell any of my stocks or securities and reinvest the proceeds in other stocks, securities or loaned as he may deem most judicious~

I do not bequeath anything to my granddaughters MARY DUKE & MARY JONES because I have given to their respective mothers all that I designed to give them.

I appoint my nephew, WILLIAM BASKERVILLE, JR, Executor to this my last will and testament.

Given under my hand and seal this the 21st day of March 1862.

At a Hustings Court continued and held for the City of Petersburg, at the Courthouse thereof on Saturday the 17th day of May A.D. 1862~

            The last will and testament of George D. Baskerville deceased was this day presented in Court and proved by the oaths of James May, Joseph Taylor and R.H. Taliferro, the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.~

City of Petersburg, To Wit~

I, John C. Armistead, Clerk of the Hustings Court of the City of Petersburg, in the State of Virginia, do certify the foregoing copy of the last will & testament of George D. Baskerville, deceased, to be a true transcript from the records of said Court.  In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand an affix the seal of the said Court this 15th August 1862 in the 87th year of the Commonwealth.

W.W. Townes, mayor of the city aforesaid in the State of Virginia and as such presiding Justice of the Hustings Court thereof, do certify that John C. Armistead, whose genuine signature appears to the foregoing certificate, is the duly elected and qualified clerk of the said Hustings Court and that his attestation is in due form.

Given under my hand this 15th day of August A. D. 1862.

Note:  George D. Baskerville (1793-1862) was born in Mecklenburg Co VA, son of William Baskerville (1756-1814) and  Mary Eaton.  He married in Warren Co NC in 1815, Elizabeth (Betsy) Eaton Willis (1800-1847), dau. of John Willis and Elizabeth Park, producing nine children.  After Elizabeth’s (Betsy) death, George married the family governess, Mary Williams in  Sept.1848 and removed to Petersburg, Va.  They had one daughter named Octavia.  Recognized in his will are his children from Betsy Wills: John Willis Baskerville, George D. Baskerville, Jr, and daughters Delha, Roberta, Lucy and Isabella Bakerville. Granddaughters:  Mary Duke (dau/o James Lawrence Duke &  Eliz.(Betsy) Park Baskerville; and Mary Jones (dau/o Ann Minge Baskerville & Albert C. Jones). Octavia was the daughter from Mary Williams. His nephew, William Baskerville, Jr. is  the son of Charles Baskerville (1788-1834) and Elizabeth Ann Coleman of Mecklenburg Co. VA.
