Dale.1310 She died on 11 February 1945 at the age of 73 in Burke County, North Carolina.1309 Alena was buried in Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Burke County, NC. Alena was a housewife and she helped Joe and the children farm on 200 acres they owned in Burke County, Brindletown section. Joe was also a gold miner. He prospected on his place during winter and rainy weather in the summer months, so there would be plenty of water for washing the gold nuggets. He did his mining by hand. When his two oldest sons were old enough to help, Marion helped in the mines while Hiram carried the equipment and material in and out of the mines for them. When he got out enough gold to sell, he hauled it to a dealer in Forest City, North Carolina in his horse-drawn wagon. After the death of Victoria (Vic), Joe lived alone. He died in a tragic house fire on 27 December 1947. His daughter, Anna Lou and her husband lived nearby. They awakened with extreme horror and stood by helplessly. All records and household goods were gone. After things cooled off, Ethel and Joe II looked for the gold. They found a pot in a storage drawer in the bottom of the cooking stove with some gold melted, which ran over the bottom and the side of the pot. Huffman, J.P. 22 January 1891 Alena Victoria and Joseph Marion were the parents of twelve children: Mary Ellen, Bessie Alena, Marion, Estoye, Robert Dalzell, Ethel Mae, Joseph Francis, Samuel Lee, Anna Lou, George Washington, John Hiram and Polly.
