Forsyth County was formed from Stokes in 1849 and was the most populous section of the county.

All information is accessible and free, and copy machines are available for a reasonable charge. Danbury is about 20 miles north of Winston-Salem by NC highway 8, and about 20 miles south of Stuart VA by VA 8 (same highway). Deeds available online (Click Here).

The Gypsy Hollingsworth History Room houses census records, cemetary records, marriage records, County Heritage books (Book I and II for Stokes County), individual family histories, will and deed abstracts, Civil War and Revolutionary War records. Microfilm consists of Danbury Reporter (misc. to 1945), marriage bonds, some census records and the iron works. A microfilm reader without a printer is available. Copy machine is available at the front desk. The Danbury library is on the main road on the west side of town. If you’re coming from Walnut Cove go through the old part of Danbury. It’s about a mile from the center of town, on the right just before you get to the new county courthouse.

Information about the collection, including Stokes County, contained at the Central Library. The Stokes County core collection (North Carolina county records 1740-1868) of county records on microfilm includes wills, deeds, marriage bonds, etc. is available. Copiers and microfilm readers and printers are available.
