ALLMAN, Martin M., b. 3 Jan 1845, d. 25 Dec 1929, son of Gideon Allman & Elizabeth Friesland. He married Laura E. House. Enlisted on 11 Sep 1863. He was wounded at Plymouth, NC on 18 Apr 1864.

BANGLE, Henry W., b. 7 Jan 1823, d. 16 Mar 1864, son of Daniel Bangle and Catherine Friesland. He married Sarah D. Ridenhour. Enlisted on 1 May 1863. He died at Petersburg, VA on 16 Mar 1864.

BANGLE, Israel M., b. 18 Oct 1838, d. 23 Mar 1863, son of Daniel Bangle & Catherine Friesland. Never married. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in August 1862.¨ He died of an internal hemorrhage in Charleston, SC on 23 Mar 1863.

BARNHARDT, Alford B., b. 31 Mar 1837, d. 20 Nov 1871, son of George Barnhardt & Martha Reed. He married Mary Ann Culp Dry, the widow of Henry Dry, also a member of Co. H. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was wounded (leg amputated) and captured at Ft. Harrison, VA on 30 Sep 1864. He was hospitalized at Ft. Monroe, VA and transferred to the Federal Prison at Point Lookout, MD, where he remained until released on 3 Jun 1865.

BARNHARDT, Jacob R., b. 14 Dec 1836, d. 28 Jan 1926, son of George F. Barnhardt. He married (1st) Mary Jane Smith. Married (2nd) Susan E. ???. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and declared exchanged on 10 Nov 1862. Promoted to Corporal on 31 Dec 1863. Promoted to Sergeant on 20 Apr 1864. Promoted to Ensign (1st Lieutenant) and transferred to Field & Staff, 8th NC Regt. on 17 Jun 1864. Jonas Cook states that he was captured at Ft. Harrison, VA on 30 Sep 1864.

BARNHARDT, Marshall L., b. 21 Jan 1842, d. Abt. 1894, son of George Barnhardt & Martha Reed. He married Sarah P. Dunlap. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 19 Mar 1863. He was captured at Ft. Harrison, VA on 30 Sep 1864 and imprisoned at Old Capital Prison in Washington, DC until transferred to Ft. Delaware, DE on 21 Oct 1864. He was released from Ft. Delaware on 14 Jun 1865.

BARRIER, Augustus C., b. 2 Feb 1843, d. 19 Jan 1926, son of Daniel Barrier & Nancy Matheson. He married Rosa J. Shimpock. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island on 8 Feb 1861, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was promoted to Corporal on 22 Mar 1863. He was promoted to Sergeant on 31 Dec 1863. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant on 20 Apr 1864. He was captured at Ft. Harrison, VA on 30 Sep 1864 and imprisoned at Point Lookout, MD until transferred to Boulware’s Wharf and exchanged on 19 Mar 1865.

BARRIER, Edmond B., b. 5 Aug 1826, d. 23 Aug 1863, son of Jacob Barrier & Mary Hurlocker. He married Lydia Dry. Enlisted on 17 Dec 1862. He died while on medical leave (from typhoid fever) in Cabarrus Co. NC on 23 Aug 1863.

BARRIER, Edward, b. ???, d. ???, Parents unidentified. Not listed in Official Records but listed by Jonas Cook as enlisting in 1864 and kia at Plymouth, NC on 20 Apr 1864.

BARRIER, John A., b. 16 Sep 1837, d. 19 Jul 1925, son of Charles Barrier & Susannah Kluttz. He married Sophia L. Lentz. Enlisted on 20 Sep 1862. He was wounded (index finger amputated) at Petersburg, VA on 15 Jul 1864. He was reported absent due to wounds through 20 Jan 1865.

BARRIER, Levi C., b. Abt. 1843, d. 23 Mar 1865?, son of Moses Barrier & Sally Nussman. Never married. Enlisted on 11 Aug 1862. Captured at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 Jun 1864. He was confined at Pt. Lookout, MD until transferred to the Federal Prison at Elmira NY on 12 Jul 1864. One record states that he died at Elmira, NY on 23 Mar 1865, however, other records state that he was transferred for exchange to Venus Point, GA 15 Nov 1864. No further record. (The death record from Elmira Prison may have been for his cousin, Tobias Barrier.)

BARRIER, Mathias A., b. 10 Sep 1826, d. 20 Apr 1864?, son of John Barrier & Esther Sides. He married Polly Shoe. Enlisted on 17 Dec 1862. His widow’s pension application state that he was wounded at Plymouth, NC and died of wounds on 20 Apr 1864. Confederate records state that he was captured at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 Jun 1864, but Federal records do not list him as a pow. Jonas Cook’s record states that he was kia at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 Jun 1864.

BARRIER, Nelson, b. Abt 1822, d. 18 Apr 1864, son of Samuel Barrier & Mary Goodman. He married Anna C. Troutman. Enlisted on 28 Sep 1863. He was kia at Plymouth, NC on 18 Apr 1864

BARRIER, Paul A., b. 12 Mar 1833, d. 19 May 1909, son of Moses Barrier & Sally Nussman. He married Mary C. Bangle. Enlisted on 6 Sep 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant on 31 Oct 1862. He was discharged from Co. H and appointed as Asst. Surgeon with the 34th VA Regt. on 1 Jun 1863.

BARRIER, Rufus A., b. 28 Jun 1836, d. 8 Apr 1876, son of Mathias Barrier & Margaret Mitchell. He married Roxanna Anthony. Enlisted on 16 May 1861 with the Rank of Captain. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was promoted to Major on 1 Feb 1864 and transferred to Field & Staff of the 8th NC Regiment. He was promoted to Lt. Colonel on 7 Jun 1864. He was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the left eye on 22 Aug 1864 at an unstated location (either at Globe Tavern, VA or in the trenches at Petersburg, VA). He returned to duty in October, 1864.

BARRIER, Tobias A., b. Abt. 1832, d. 23 Mar 1865, son of Charles Barrier & Susannah Kluttz. Never married. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was captured at Cold Harbor, VA on 31 May 1864 and confined at Pt. Lookout, MD until 8 Jul 1864 when he was transferred to the Federal Prison at Elmira, NY. He died of pneumonia at Elmira, NY on 23 Mar 1865.

BARRIER, Washington G., b. 11 May 1847, d. ???, son of Charles Barrier & Susannah Kluttz. He married Mary J. Kluttz. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861 but was rejected by the Surgeon for medical reasons.

BARRIER, William L., b. 29 Apr 1834, d. 17 May 1864, son of Mathias Barrier & Margaret Mitchell. Never married. Enlisted on 15 Jun 1861 and mustered in with Co. F, 1st NC Cavalry. He was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant in Aug 1862, and transferred to Co. H, 8th NC Regt., but declined the promotion and remained with the 1st Cavalry. He was wounded at Gettysburg, PA on 3 Jul 1863 and reduced in rank to Private on 15 Jul 1863. He was wounded at the Wilderness, VA on 6 Jun 1864 and died of wounds on 17 Jun 1864.

BARRINGER, Cager D., b. 8 Mar 1845, d. 14 Aug 1911, son of John D. Barringer & Christina Hahn. He married Catherine A. Moose. Enlisted on 3 Mar 1863. He was captured at Cold Harbor, VA on 31 May 1864.

BARRINGER, Caleb E., b. 31 Dec 1839, d. 4 Apr 1924, son of Nathaniel Barringer & Susannah Faggart. He married (1st) Dovie C. Fisher. Married (2nd) Rachael Plott. Enlisted on 8 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was promoted to Corporal on 24 Mar 1863. Captured at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 Jun 1864 and confined at Pt.Lookout, MD until transferred to the Federal prison at Elmira, NY. He was paroled at Elmira on 2 Mar 1865 and transferred to Virgina for exchange.

BARRINGER, Jackson E., b. 25 Oct 1842, d. 20 Apr 1864, son of John Barringer and Caroline Ridenhour. Never married. Enlisted on 10 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was kia at Plymouth, NC on 20 Apr 1864.

BARRINGER, Jacob A., b. Abt 1849, d. 20 Apr 1864, son of Martin Barringer & Sallie Moose. Never married. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was wounded at Goldsboro, NC on 17 Dec 1862. Promoted to Sergeant on 31 Jan 1863. Promoted to 1st Sergeant on 28 Feb 1864. He was kia at Plymouth, NC on 20 Apr 1864.

BARRINGER, Rufus A., b. 19 Jul 1842. d. 8 Oct 1864, son of George W. Barringer & Leah Foutz. Never married. Enlisted on 21 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was wounded at Petersburg, VA on 18 Jun 1864. He was wounded (in the throat) at Ft. Harrison, VA on 30 Sep 1864 and died of wounds in Richmond, VA on 8 Oct 1864.

BARRINGER, W. Davidson, b. 10 Dec 1844, d.???, son of Nathaniel Barringer & Susannah Faggart. He married Amanda Eudy. Enlisted on 3 Mar 1863. He was wounded at Plymouth, NC on 20 Apr 1864. Jonas Cook lists him as wounded at Bermuda Hundred, VA on 20 May 1864. Official records state that he was wounded in VA (place not specified) on 31 Oct 1864. Jonas Cook states that he died of wounds.

BARRINGER, William G. H., b. 26 Nov 1844, d. 14 Jan 1929, son of Nelson Barringer & Christina Melchor. He married M. Cornelia Francis Lentz. Enlisted on 3 Mar 1863. Jonas Cook lists him as wounded at Drury’s Bluff on 20 Apr 1864 and participating in the action at Globe Tavern (Weldon RR) on 19 Aug 1864. He was listed in Official Records as captured in the hospital at Raleigh, NC on 13 Apr 1865.

BEAVER, Edward Lawson, b. 12 Aug 1847, d. Abt. 1865, son of Isaac Beaver & Elizabeth Eagle. Never married. Enlisted on 14 Jul 1864. Jonas Cook states he was kia in the trenches of Petersburg on 19 Aug 1864, but Official Records state that he was captured at Ft. Harrison, VA on 30 Sep 1864. Some information states that he died as a pow but no official record has been found to verify this.

BEAVER, Henry W., b. 5 Feb 1831, d. 5 May 1897, son of Isaac Beaver & Elizabeth Eagle. He married Leah Beaver. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862.

BEAVER, John D., b. 7 Aug 1843, d. 19 Aug 1864, son of Isaac Beaver & Elizabeth Eagle. Never married. Enlisted on 6 Apr 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was promoted to Color Corporal on 17 Jun 1864. He was captured and died of wounds at Globe Tavern (Weldon RR), VA on 19 Aug 1864. Jonas Cook stated that he was killed in the trenches at Petersburg, VA on 19 Aug 1864.

BLACKWELDER, Elias A., b. Abt. 1840, d. 1 Apr 1863, son of Charles R. Blackwelder & Catherine Lipe. Never married. Enlisted on 15 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He died of Typhoid Fever in Charleston, SC on 1 Apr 1863.

BLACKWELDER, George W., b. 11 Jul 1846, d. 23 Jan 1926, son of Moses Blackwelder & Rachael Fisher. He married (1st) Lunda Penninger. Married (2nd) Amy Lippard. Enlisted on 20 Apr 1864. He was wounded at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 Jun 1864. He was discharged in Raleigh, NC on 15 Feb 1865 due to wounds.

BLACKWELDER, Levi H., b. 7 Aug 1845, d. 25 Jun 1864, son of Charles R. Blackwelder & Catherine Lipe. Never married. Enlisted on 11 Sep 1863. He was wounded at Drury’s Bluff, VA on 15 May 1864 and died of wounds in Richmond, VA on 25 Jun 1864.

BOST, Anthony G., b. 29 Aug 1845, d. ???, son of Daniel M. Bost & Mary Ann Ridenhour. He married Martha Jane Foil. Enlisted on 25 Mar 1864. He was wounded at Plymouth, NC on 18 Apr 1864. Jonas Cook states that he was wounded at Drury’s Bluff, VA on 16 May 1864. Official records state that was wounded at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 Jun 1864. He was admitted to the hospital at Charlotte, NC on 17 Jan 1865 for wounds, but returned to duty on 3 Feb 1865.

BOST, Daniel L., b. 10 Apr 1839, d. 13 Mar 1895, son of Daniel Bost & Nancy Boger. He married Louisa O. R. Kluttz. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was wounded in New Bern, NC in Feb 1864. He was wounded (shot in the face) at Drury’s Bluff, VA on 16 May 1864. Other records state that he was discharged in Raleigh, NC for wounds on 3 Mar 1865, but these records also state that he was paroled in Salisbury, NC on 15 May 1865.

BOST, Hiram Wilson, b. Abt. 1823, d. 19 Jun 1864, son of ??? Bost & Nancy ???. He married Sarah E. Smith. Enlisted on 30 Oct 1863. He was wounded at Petersburg, VA on 30 May 1864 and died of wounds at Petersburg, on 19 Jun 1864.

BOST, Mathias, b. Abt 1822, d. 20 Apr 1864, son of Daniel Bost & Elizabeth Starnes. He married Margaret Light. Enlisted on 17 Dec 1862. He was kia at Plymouth, NC on 20 Apr 1864.

BROWN, William A., b. Abt 1839, d. 9 Jan 1863, son of Henry Brown. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861 and elected 3rd Sergeant on 7 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He died of Typhoid Fever at Camp Whiting, Wilmington, NC on 9 Jan 1863.

CANUP, Daniel, b. Abt 1822, d. 21 Jun 1864, son of John Canup & Catherine Miller. He married Eleanor Ludwick. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was wounded at Bermuda Hundred, VA on 20 May 1864 and died of wounds in Richmond, VA on 21 Jun 1864.

CANUP, Tobias M., b. Abt 1830, d. ???, son of John Canup & Catherine Miller. He married Lucy Starnes. Enlisted on 24 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. Wounded at Petersburg, VA on 19 Jun 1864. Jonas Cook states that he was wounded in the trenches at Petersburg, VA on 16 Aug 1864 and that he died in prison. Official Records list him as wounded at Globe Tavern (Weldon RR), VA on 19 Aug 1864.

CLINE, Archibald, b. 21 Feb 1822, d. 15 Oct 1901, son of George Cline & Esther Blackwelder. He married (1st) Christina C. Ridenhour. Married (2nd) Mary A. Ridenhour. Enlisted on 11 Sep 1863.

CLINE, George H., b. 9 Oct 1844, d. 14 Mar 1931, son of Wiley Cline & Mary A. Blackwelder. He married (1st) Harriett Stewart. Married (2nd) Elmira White. Enlisted on 15 Jan 1863, but was rejected by the Surgeon. He was conscripted on 24 Apr 1863. He was wounded at Plymouth, NC on 20 Apr 1864. Jonas Cook states he was wounded at Bermuda Hundred, VA on 20 May 1864.

CLINE, Wiley, b. 27 Mar 1820, d. 24 Jan 1891, son of George Cline & Esther Blackwelder. He married (1st) Mary A. Blackwelder. Married (2nd) Leah Bost. Enlisted on 11 Sep 1863. He was wounded at Plymouth, NC on 18 Apr 1864.

CLINE, William H., b. 7 Mar 1846, d. 20 Apr 1864, son of Archibald Cline & Christina Ridenhour. Never married. Enlisted in Nov 1863. He was kia at Plymouth, NC on 20 Apr 1864.

CONDON, Patrick, b. Abt. 1833, d. ???. Parents unidentified. Enlisted on ??? and mustered into Co. H, 40th NC Regt. He transferred to Co. H, 8th Regiment on 15 Jul 1863 and was listed as deserting on 23 Jul 1863.

COOK, Jonas, b. 28 Feb 1842, d. 21Apr 1912, son of Mathew Cook & Mary Costner. He married Martha R. Shimpock. Enlisted with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 18 Nov 1862. Promoted to Captain on 1 Feb 1864. He was wounded at Plymouth, NC on 18 Apr 1864. He was wounded at Ware Bottom, VA on 20 May 1864.

COOK, Michael, b. 4 Sep 1843, d. Abt 1864, son of Mathew Cook & Mary Costner. Never married. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 Apr 1863. Promoted to Sergeant on 12 Apr 1863. He was listed in Federal records as captured at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 Jun 1864, but accounts from members of Co. H list him as missing in action. Lt. H. C. McAllister stated that he last observed Cook “climbing the barracks” at Cold Harbor, facing the full fire of the Union troops.

CORL, Daniel N. b. 30 May 1834, d. 28 Nov 1910. Parents unidentified. He married Rebecca M. Dry. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862 paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. Jonas Cook stated that he was captured at Cold Harbor on 1 Jun 1864.

CORL, John M., b. Abt 1831, d. ???. Parents unidentified. He married Esther Fink. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was captured at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 Jun 1864 and confined at Pt. Lookout, MD until transferred to the Federal Prison at Elmira, NY on 12 Jul 1864. He was received at Boulware’s Wharf for exchange on 20 Feb 1865. He was hospitalized in Richmond, VA on 2 Mar 1865.

CRUSE, Ambrose, b. 20 Feb 1841, d. 28 Feb 1865, son of Paul Cruse & Susannah Cress. Never married. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was wounded at Drury’s Bluff, VA on 14 May 1864. He was captured at Ft. Harrison, VA on 30 Sep 1864 and died in the Federal Prison at Point Lookout, MD on 18 Feb 1865.

CULP, Doctor F., b. 16 Jun 1839, d. 4 Jun 1896, son of David Culp & Affie Stires. He married Laura E. Barringer. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. Jonas Cook states that he was wounded at Bermuda Hundred on 20 May 1864. He was captured at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 Jun 1864 and confined at Pt. Lookout, MD until transferred to the Federal Prison at Elmira, NY on 12 Jul 1864. He was transferred to Boulware’s Wharf for exchange on 2 Mar 1865. Was hospitalized at Richmond, VA on 10 Mar 1865.

CULP, William C., b. 18 May 1843, d. ???, son of George Culp & Polly Barrier. He married (1st) Julia A. Peck. He married (2nd) Mattie Barnhardt Crowell. Enlisted on 7 Sep 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was captured at Ft. Harrison, VA on 30 Sep 1864 and confined at Pt. Lookout, MD. He was transferred to Cox’s Landing on 15 Feb 1865 for exchange.

DRY, Daniel M., b. Abt 1843, d. 17 Jun 1864, son of Allison Dry & Catherine Rentleman. Never married. Enlisted on 6 Aug 1861. He was captured a Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He was kia at Petersburg, VA on 17 Jun 1864.

DRY, Henry, b. 8 Jul 1824, d. 24 Aug 1863, son of Daniel Dry and Rachael Lipe. He married Mary Ann Culp. Enlisted 7 May 1863. He died of Typhoid Fever at Charleston, SC on 24 Aug 1863.

Harrison, VA on 30 Sep 1864 and confined at Pt. Lookout, MD until transferred to Boulware’s Wharf, VA for exchange on 19 Mar 1865.
