TRUEBLOOD, JOHN and AMOS

 LAND GRANT 1694: 

The following is a land grant to John Trueblood and Amos Trueblood in 1694. (The area mentioned as best as I can determine is in present day Camden County in the Whitehall Shores area.) John and Amos were the sons of John Trueblood and Agnes (Fisher) Trueblood, the first Truebloods in America, who migrated to the “Colony of Carolina” from England in 1682. The grant is on microfilm in the NC State Archives but the original apparently has been lost.

Know Ye that We have granted unto John Trueblood and Amos Trueblood, between them the s’d John Trueblood and Amos Trueblood to be holden severally a Tract of Land containing Six hundred acres lying on the Westward side of the Northernmost branch of Aranuse Creek in Pascotank prc. & Beginning at a Beech by the S& Branch side the corner tree of John Archdale Esq. thence up ye s’d Branch by Various courses to a White Oak, then West twenty degrees North two hundred and eighty poles to a gum, then South five degrees East three hundred forty six poles to a Maple, then East twenty degrees South three hundred and twenty poles to the first Station, To Hold Ye Giver from the first day of Janry 1694. FORBES, JAMES

 DEED 23 APRIL 1719:

James Forbes and his wife, Alice (Clason) Forbes were the first Forbes to settle in what is now Camden County. He migrated there from Accomac County on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in 1701. In October, 1715 he received a grant of 532 acres “on ye N. East side of the Pasquotank River, joining a Beaver Dam Swamp”. On April 23, 1719, he divided his property among his four sons, James, Jr., Bailey, Thomas and Edward. It actually reads more like a will than a deed. The following deed abstract is from Gwen Bjorkman’s “Pasquotank County, NC Record of Deeds, 1700-1751”.

“…in consideration of the love and good affection I bear towards my loveing sons viz James Forbes, jun, Bailey Forbes, Thomas Forbes and Edward Forbes having given…one hundred acres of land to each son, that is for the first three sons & to the youngest 132, as I shall now mention. I give to my son James 100 acres of land on which he is now situated, called by the name of Beaver Dam Neck, & to my son Bailey 100 acres of land, called Great Neck and Little Neck , & to my son Thomas 100 acres of land called Poplar Neck & to my son Edward I give the Manor Plantation with 132 Acres thereunto belonging after his father and mother decease, & also I give unto my son Bailey a young blk heifer & her furture increase when he is situated on his land; but he must bear the loss in the mean time…

WRIGHT, WILLIAMS

DEED 1829

Camden county, N.C. Deed book “U”, page 133

7th May 1829

This Indenture made this seventh day of May one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine between William Wright of the county of Camden & state of North Carolina on the part and Arthur Gregory of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that I the said William Wright for and consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to me in hand paid before the sealing and delivering thereof have given, granted, bargained and sold a certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in the county and state aforesaid beginning as follows at a chinquopin post on the main road Caleb Barnards corner thence westwardly to Levi Wright’s dec’d line thence binding Thomas Willliams land& Enoch Sawyer heirs line to Gideon Cartwrights line thence down said Cartwrights line to the main road thence binding the main road to the first station containing by estimation 50 acres by the same more or less the title of which I the said William Wright do warrant and forever defend from me, my heirs and assigns and from the lawful claims of all and every person whatsoever to him the said Arthur Gregory his heirs and assigns forward. Witness whereof I the said William Wright have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and date above written Camden county court February 7, 1832.

Deed of sale:

State of Tennessee, Fayette County, Jan. 30, 47

For and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to me in hand paid receipt of which is hereby acknowledged. I have this day bargained and sold and do by these presents, bargain, sale, convey and confirm unto Timothy C. Smith of the county of Camden and state of North Carolina all my right title and interest in and to the following property to wit, one tract or parcel of land lying and being in said county of Camden and state of North Carolina the same being part and parallel of a certain tract of land in the southern part of said county or thereabout and lately divided among the heirs of John Wright dec’d in said county. Said heirs being Nathanial Wright, John Wright, Peter, Margaret and Phebe Wright and myself. And being the part allotted to me as one of the heirs aforesaid, as a aforesaid, and containing 25 acres more or less to have and hold to the said T. C. Smith his heirs in free simple forever, and the title to the same to the said Smith his heirs. I will warrant and defend against the lawful claim of any and all persons whatsoever. Also all my right, title and interest in any and all moneys. Moneys, lands of bond for money, sale of notes and all other the like funds to me due and owing from my late guardian in said county of Camden is his executors as any the legal representatives of my said guardian Corton Sawyer. With full authority the same to demand and receive and receipt for the same of and to any the executors or other the legal representatives is representatives of my guardian aforesaid to whose hand has or may come any money is bonds to me due and giving as aforesaid. To have and hold said money to proceed to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Smith, his heirs assign.

In testimony of all which, as well of the conveyance of the lands of the funds aforesaid witness my hand and seal this thirtieth day of January AD 1847.
