The following was copied from a Bible owned by Cartwright Bell, son of Brickhouse Bell and Jane Cartwright Bray.

  • Brickhouse Bell and Jane Bray, widow of William Bray, were married 16 day of Sept. 1790.
  • Col. Brickhouse Bell of Camden County died February 28, 1822.
  • Col. Brickhouse Bell married Mrs. M. Downs March 11, 1821 (R. R. Records say March 23)
  • Jane Cartwright was the daughter of Peter Cartwright and Jane Morgan. She married three times. First to Jesse Barnard, second to William Bray, third to Brickhouse Bell.
  • Jane Morgan Cartwright was probably the daughter of Joseph Morgan. She was born 9 November 1764 and died November 1820.
  • Nancy Bell was born 3 June 1791.

In the name of God Amen I JUDITH GREGORY being very sick and weak but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to almight God for it do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testement in maner and form as followeth that is to say furst I recommend my soul to God that gave it and my body to the earth to be buried at the discracion of my Exc…hereafter menthened——–

Iom. I give and bequeath to my well belove Son ISAAC GREGORY my new Desk

Iom. I give and bequeath to my beloved friend MARY LOYED one cow and cluf and one three year old hefer and two head of sheep and all my gees and one new coten gown and three head of yong cattel of two years old apeas.

Iom. I give and bequath all the rest of my estat that shall beleft after my lawfull debts be paid to be equally devided betwose my four children ISAAC, DEMSEY, MARY and LOVEY except my waring cloath to be equally devid between my two Daughters MARY and LOVEY.

And likewise I ordain and constute and apint my well beloved Brother JOSEPH MORGEN to be my whole and sole Executer of this my Last Will and Testement as witness my hand and seal this 21th day of October 1753.

In the name of God Amen! I ELISHA SAWYER of Camden County in the State of North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind & memory do this 13th day of September in the year of our Lord 1823 make & establish this my Last Will and Testament in manner & form following, that is to say.

Imprimis. I give & devise all the lands of which I am now seised & possed unto ELISHA SAWYER & LEMUEL SAWYER Sons of WILLIAM SAWYER to be divided between them in such manner that each of them shall have an equal share of woodland & if either of them should die under age, for the other to have his share, & if they should both die under age & without heirs of their body then & in that case for the children of SALLY SAWYER (now the Wife of WILLIAM SAWYER) which she may hereafter have, to inherit the said lands jointly, and for want of such children for the lands to return back to my family & kindred.

Item. I leave the use of my part of the building to my Brother & Sister as long as they may choose to remain in the plantation.

Item. I give & bequeath negro Synthia to ELISHA SAWYER son of WILLIAM to him & his heirs forever.

Sarah Margaret  Boyce (November 8, 1939)———- Mrs., Sarah Margaret Boyce 78, died Wednesday night at 10;30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Jennings, at 108 east cypress st. after a lingering illness. She was a native of Gates county, but lived with her daughter the past several years. She was the widow of the late John T. Boyce and daughter of the late David and Sarah Hobbs  of Hobbsville. Gates county, Her four daughters are; Mrs. Joseph Jordan of Camden , Mrs. J, F, Jennings and Mrs., Shelton Hales of this city, Mrs. C. E. Morgan of Berkley , Va. one son J, E, Boyce of Gatesvillle,; four sisters- Mrs. H. L. Powell of Norfolk, Mrs. Betty  Eure of Hertford. Mrs., J, C, Dail of Edenton and Mrs., S, P, Matthews,  One brother, J, D, Hobbs of Tyner. Burial will be in Corinth cemetery.
