Bartlett Yancey Allen Cemetery

Location: Hassell Horton Road
Directions: From Roxboro, take 49 to left on Hassell Horton Road (SR 1138). Cemetery is in field on right.
Access: Cemetery is on private property but accessible to family by farm path.

Notes: Although there is no evidence now, numerous sources state that directly behind the Allen graves were 30 to 50 graves marked by fieldstones.

David Allen Cemetery

Location: Hicks Yarborough Road (SR 1544)
Directions: From Roxboro, take old Allensville Road (SR 1717) to left on Hicks Yarborough Road. Cemetery is near road in field on right
Access: Near road, easy access when crops aren’t planted around it.

This cemetery was included in the WPA survey of cemeteries. It is included as #3 in the WPA survey list that is a part of this web site.

This small cemetery is unusual in the degree of protection provided the graves. The cemetery is surrounded by railroad rails welded together.

Directions: From Roxboro, take 501S to right on Flat River Church Road (SR 1144). Cemetery is diagonally across from Flat River Church, just beyond intersection with Bessie Daniels Road
Access: Well-maintained and near road.

This cemetery was surveyed on 30 April 1937 as a part of the WPA Survey. At that time the first three graves below were listed. The survey is designated as # 2 on the WPA list on this web site.

Location: Eastern end of McCullock Loop Road (SR 1104)
Directions: From Roxboro, west on Hurdle Mills Road (157) to right on McCullock Loop Road. Cemetery is on left about 2/10th of mile.
Access: Close to road and maintained

The death certificate of William Hughes Anderson gives the name of this cemetery as the "Brooks Burying Ground."

Andrews, Blalock, Sneede, Timberlake Cemetery

Location: 200 C C Andrews Road (SR 1202)
Directions: From Roxboro, take US 501S past Timberlake to right on CC Andrews Road. Cemetery is just after creek on left.
Access: Andrews and Blalock graves are inside a chain link fence and well maintained. Sneede and Timberlake graves are easily accessable in the woods directly beside fence and covered with periwinkle.
