Know all men by these presents that I HENRY BAKER of Hertford County and State of North Carolina for & in consideration of the sum of four hundred & 25 dollars me in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain & sell and deliver unto THOMAS BARROW of Halifax County & State aforesaid a certain Negro man named HARDY supposed to be about 30 years old which said Negro HARDY I the sd HENRY BAKER for myself my heirs Exors & Admrs will warrant and defend unto him the said THOMAS BARROW his heirs and assigns against the lawful claim or claims of all and every person or persons whomsoever, forever by these presents. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th of June 1813.

This Indenture made the 24th of November in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one between CARY BASS of the County of Halifax and State of No. Carolina on the one part and JOHN RICHARDSON JUNR. of sd. This Indenture made the 8th day of February one thousand eight hundred & four, Between CATY BASS of the one part and JOHN RICHARDSON of the other part, both of Halifax County & State aforesaid.
Witnesseth that the said CATY BASS for and in consideration of the sum of thirty two dollars to her in hand paid & the consideration of the same hath bargained, sold to the said JOHN RICHARDSON a tract of land lying in the County of Halifax & sd. State lying & bounded as follows-
Beginning at an oak in the sd land of BENJA. BASS dec'd then along her line East to her corner oak, then No. along her line to an oak then west running along her line to to her other corner oak then running So. to the first station - containing seventeen acres of land.
To the sd JOHN RICHERSON his heirs & assigns forever with every privilege & appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining.
And I the said CATEY BASS do warrant & forever defend the right & title of sd tract of land against the claims of myself or any other persons.

This Indenture made this 4th of November eighteen hundred & five, between HARDY BASS of the Town of Petersburg State of Virginia of the one part & JOHN RICHARDSON of the County of Halifax State of North Carolina of the other part; witnesseth that the said HARDY BASS for & in consideration of thirty four silver dollars to me in hand paid by said JOHN RICHARDSON the receipt for which I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained & sold & by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto the said JOHN RICHARDSON his heirs &c all my right title & interest in the lands belonging to the estate of my dec'd father BENJA. BASS supposed to be seventeen acres more or less.
To have & to hold forever the said land to the said RICHARDSON his heirs &c.

This Indenture made this 19th day of March in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and five between ISAAC BASS of the County of Halifax & Stat of North Carolina of the one pt. & ROBERT COCHRAN of the other pt. witnesseth that the sd ISAAC BASS for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fourteen dollars to him in hand pd by ELIJAH WILLIAMS the rec't whereof the sd ISAAC BASS doth fully acknowledge himself satisfied and pd he hath bargained sold and delivered unto ROBERT COCHRAN all of a certain tract of land in Halifax County on Cow-Hall Swamp bounded as follows,
Beginning on a black gum on the run of Cow Hall Swamp JAMES GLISTON's corner formerly SOLOMON BASSes then with GLISTON'S and BASSes line So. 88 Wt. 156 po. to a pine then So. 49 West 7 po. to a pine then So. 23 Et. 20 pole, So. 12 Et. 20 po. So. 2 Et. 20 po., So. 5 Et. 26 po to a pine in a new made corner on the path the last courses are along a line of marked trees No. 88 Et. 222 po. along a new line to a gum on the main run of Cow Hall Swamp then up the run to the first Station containing one hundred and one acres be the same more or less.
To have and to hold the above mentioned demised premises in a sure and perfect estate in fee simple and the sd ISAAC BASS doth oblige himself his heirs or assigns to warrant and forever defend the above described tract of land not only against himself his heirs or assigns but against all persons whatever unto the said ROBERT COCHRAN his heirs and assigns forever.

This Indenture made & entered into on this the 1st day of May 1856 by and between of JAMES BOON of the one part and WILLIS M. PERKINS of the other part both of the County of Halifax and State of North Carolina Witnesseth that whereas the said JAMES BOON is justly indebted to HILLIARD HOLT's Estate in the sum of Eighty dollars due by note & dated about 1849 & 1850 subject to a credit of about twenty five dollars to WILLIAM BOON in the sum of two hundred and Eight dollars due by note bearing 28 April 1856, do JAMES W. BOON in the sum of about twenty dollars du by account to JAMES L. JOHNSON in the sum of fifty dollars due by note int[erest] from about 1st June 1855 one note due WILLIAM DRAPER for about twenty dollars with WM BOON as security due by note executed to POLLY ROSSER for fifty dollars the precise amount of all of the above named notes & accounts will more fully appear by reference thereto and whereas the said JAMES BOON is desirous to secure the payment of all the aforesaid claims & to save harm less his securities thereto, to wit, WM BOON & JAS. D. PERKINS, now this indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid the receipt whereof I doth hereby acknowledge I the said JAMES BOON hath granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth grant bargain & convey unto the said WILLIS M. PERKINS his heirs and assigns forever the following property to wit, one sorrel horse, 1 sorrel mare, twenty three had cattle, twenty seven head [smeared] one cart & wheels, together with all my household & kitchen furniture, farming utensils, fodder & corn unto the said WILLIS M. PERKINS his heirs & assigns forever to have & to hold unto the said WILLIS M. PERKINS in trust nevertheless for the following uses purposes and trust viz that should the said JAMES BOON fail to pay and satisfy all or any part of the above named debts together with all interest & cost thereon by the first day of December next, then all in that event the said WM. M. PERKINS shall expose to public sale for cash, should it be regained so to do by the said condition first giving ten days public notice of the time & place of said sale and out of the proceeds thereof the sale pay and satisfy all of debts herein named the claims taking precedence in the order in which they are named and the balance should there remain any after satisfying all of the aforesaid debts the said PERKINS shall pay to the said JAMES BOON or to his order. In testimony whereof the same JAMES BOON hath hereunto subscribed his name the day and date above written.

Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Seven hundred dollars in hand paid by the said THADEUS DAVIS the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said JAS. W. BOON that he has bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents doth bargain sell and convey to the said THADEUS DAVIS a certain tract or parcel of land being and lying in the County of Halifax and State aforesaid situated on the Louisburg road adjoining the lands of EMERY R. PONTON's tract WM L. QUALLS and others known formally as DR. SKELTON's tract containing by estimation one hundred and sixteen acres to have and to hold wih all the appertenances thereunto belonging unto him the said THADIUS DAVIS and his heirs forever and I the said JAS. BOON agree to forever warrant and defend the right and title of said land to the said THADIUS DAVIS his heirs and assigns forever against all claims of myself as well as all other persons in testimony whereof I the said JAS. Witnesseth that the said LEWIS BOON for and in consideration of the sum of sixty dollars to him in hand paid by the sd HENRY HAWKINS the rec. whereof is fully acknowledged by the sd LEWIS BOON that he hath bargained sold and delivered unto the said HENRY HAWKINS JUN. a certain tract or parcel of land in said County of Halifax on the waters of Rocky Swamp being a part of the tract of land formerly MOSES GAYNS's. Beginning on a red oak WILLIAM HARVEY SEN. corner, then by his line So.8 E 114 pole to a pine SAM'L PORTER's corner then by his line W 42 po to a hickory in his line, then along a new line of marked trees No 3 W 114 po to a hickory in WILLIAM HARVEY SEN. line then by his line East 42 pole to the first station, containing thirty acres more or less.
To have and to hold the above mentioned demised premises with the appuretenances thereunto belonging unto the sd HENRY HAWKINS his heirs or assigns forever.
And the said LEWIS BOON doth oblige himself his heirs or assigns to warrant and forever defend the above mentioned tract of land unto the sd HENRY HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever not only against themselves their heirs or assigns but against all persons whatever.

This Indenture made this 22nd day of January in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred & thirty one between LEWIS BOON of the one part & JESSE RICHARDSON of the other part both of the County of Halifax & State of N. Carolina Witnesseth that the said LEWIS BOON for & in consideration of the sum of one hundred & twenty dollars to him in hand paid by the said JESSE RICHARDSON at & before the sealing & delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said LEWIS BOON hath granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth grant bargain & sell alien enfeoff release & confirm unto the said JESSE RICHARDSON his heirs & assigns one certain tract or parcel of land & premises situate lying & being in the County & State aforesaid & bounded as follows beginning at a stake on the banks of Falling Creek where the said JESSE RICHARDSON's line crosses sd Creek thence West 112 poles to a black gum then N2W 93 pole to a stake thence E24 pole to a blackjack then S85E 15½ pole to a red & white oak then S46½ E47 pole to a white oak then S55½ E8 pole to a white oak & maple on the run of the aforesaid Creek then down the meanders thereof to the beginning containing by estimation forty acres be the same more or less To have & to hold the said tract of land & premises with all & singular the appurtenances & thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said JESSE RICHARDSON his heirs & assigns forever. And the said LEWIS BOON for himself & his heirs the said tract or parcel of land & premises against himself & his heirs & against all & every other person or persons whatsoever will warrant & forever defend by these presents unto the said JESSE RICHARDSON his heirs & assigns forever. This agreement made and entered into between LEWIS BOON of the first and H. A. HOUSE and JAMES M. HAMILL of the second part all of the County and State aforesaid. The said LEWIS BOON of the first part for and in consideration of aid and advances made by the said HOUSE and HAMILL of the second part to enable him the said BOON to cultivate a crop on the lands of said HAMILL for the year 1870, which advances made from time to time during the year, by the said HOUSE and HAMILL the amount not to exceed on the part of the said HOUSE the sum of Forty Dollars & the said HAMILL not to exceed Seventy five dollars. The said BOON to fully secure the said H. A. HOUSE & the said JAS. M. HAMILL in the sums specified & not to exceed has granted unto the said HOUSE & HAMILL a lien on his the said BOON's entire crop made & grown the year 1870 - and the said Boon do hereby give the said HOUSE & HAMILL full power & authority to collect the same according to the law passed session in 1866 & 1867 of the Gen'l Assembly of NC granted Liens &c to persons, to persons advancery March 1870.

LEWIS BOON to S. JOHNSTON-1872

Articles of agreement entered into between S. JOHNSTON of the County of Halifax and State aforesaid, of the first part, and LEWIS BOON of the County of Halifax and State aforesaid of the second part. Witnesseth that whereas LEWIS BOON is desirous of cultivating a crop during the present year upon the plantation of W. H. JOHNSTON upon which he now resides, containing about 200 acres, adjoining the lands of JOHN C. MYRICK and others and the said S. JOHNSTON has agreed to furnish to the said LEWIS BOON supplies from time to time for the purpose of enabling him the said LEWIS BOON to carry on said farm in an amount not to exceed the sum of One Hundred & fifty Dollars. Now in consideration of the premises, the said party of the second part, hereby agrees to give a lien upon the whole of the crop for the purpose of securing rents the said S. JOHNSTON such sums oas he may advance, during the year for the purposes aforesaid. Not to exceed in the aggregate the sum of One hundred & fifty Dollars, and he hereby gives unto the said S. JOHNSTON full power and authority to collect the same according to the law passed by the General Assembly of North Carolina at its Session in 1866 and 1867 giving liens upon the crops to persons making our amounts for the purpose of cultivating crops. Witness our hands and seals this the 21st day of Feby A.D. 1872.

This Indenture made December the Eleventh in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Nine between WILLIAM BOXEMAN of Halifax County in the State of North Carolina of the one part and JOSEPH HAWKINS (shoemaker) of the County and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that he the said WILLIAM BOZEMAN for and in consideration of the sum of Six hundred and forty pounds current money of the State aforesaid to him in hand already paid and contented before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge as the fill value of his right for a certain tract or parcel of land and thereof and of every part thereof he the said WILLIAM BOZEMAN doth for himself his heirs Executors &c forever acquit and discharge the aforesaid JOSEPH HAWKINS and by these presents hath bargained sold enfeoffed and confirmed and doth by these presents fully freely and absolutely give grant bargain sell enfeoff and confirm unto the aforesaid JOSEPH HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land that the aforesaid JOSEPH HAWKINS doth now live upon it being the land that the aforesaid WILLIAM BOZEMAN bought of JOEL HURT being in the county and state aforesaid on the Marsh Swamp containing seventy acres by estimation be the same more or less and bounded as followeth beginning at a pine in the edge of a small branch on JOEL HURT's line thence up the said branch the various courses to the mouth of a small drain thence through the middle or near the middle of a round pond a strait line to the back line of the said JOEL HURT's thence bounded by the said line to a corner red oak on WILLIAM SAIL's line thence ast to a corner on MARSH BROWNING's line thence southward to MEAD's line thence along MEAD'S line and HURT's line to the first station. Together with all the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders issues and profits thereof and of every part thereof and all the Estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever either in law or equity of him the said WILLIAM BOZEMAN his heirs or assigns in or to the said premises and every part thereof. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land to the aforesaid JOSEPH HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper and behoof of him the said JOSEPH HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever and the aforesaid WILLIAM BOZEMAN both for himself his heirs and assigns hereby covenant and agree with the said JOSEPH HAWKINS that he the said WILLIAM BOZEMAN hath an Estate in fee simple in and to the said premises and that he hath full power and lawfull right to sell and dispose of the same and the said premises now are and forever hereafter forever shall be and remain to the aforesaid JOSEPH HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever discharged and acquitted and sufficiently saved and kept harmless of all and from all leases titles troubles and incumbrances whatsoever that may come against him the said JOSEPH HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever from any person or persons lawfully claiming the aforesaid land and premises and furthermore the aforesaid WILLIAM BOZEMAN doth agree at the request and cost in law of him the same JOSEPH HAWKINS his heirs and assigns make do suffer execute all further lawfull and reasonable act or acts for the making oa better assurance of the aforesaid premises and every part thereof to the aforesaid JOSEPH HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever as he the said JOSEPH HAWKINS or his counsel learned in the law shall or can be devised advised or required, and doth warrant and defend the aforesaid premises or Estate to the aforesaid JOSPEH HAWKINS in as full and as perfect a manner to all intents and purposes as a pure indefeasible Estate in fee simple absolutely can be had held or enjoyed.

Know all men by these presents that I JAMES BRADLEY of the County of Halifax and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand four hundred and forty pounds Virginia money to him in hand paid by the sd JAMES AUGUSTUS TABB of the County and State afsd the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and doth by these presents grant bargain and sell unto the sd JAS. A. TABB the following slaves.
PIRTH, BETTY, LETTUCE, JIM, DUKE, PENNY, NANNIE, SAM, ABRAHAM, DOLLY MELISSA, FLORA, GEORGE, CRINIA, JUDGE, ELINOR, HANNAH, HERRIOT, PHERIBE, ANNY, OLD BENNY, DORCAS, CHARLOTTE, LELIAN.
To hold the said slaves with their increase to him the sd JAMES A. TABB and the said JAMES BRADLEY doth covenant and agree to & with the said JAMES AUGUSTUS TABB that he will at this time and at all times hereafter warrant and defend the title of the sd slaves against the title of the said JAMES BRANDLEY and his heirs and all persons claiming under him, unto the said JAMES A. TABB and his heirs forever..

This Indenture made this 22nd May in the Year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & twenty one Between JOHN G. BRADLEY of the one part & DAVID DAY of the second part both of the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina, Witnesseth that for & in consideration of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said DAVID DAY the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged & for further consideration hereinafter expressed the said JOHN G. BRADLEY hath granted, bargained & sold and by these presents doth bargain, sell & convey into the said DAVID DAY all his rights, title & interest to & in a certain undivided tract or parcel of land situated in the County aforesaid adjoining the lands HENRY SMITH, the heirs of DANIEL WELDON dec'd, ROBERT L. MARSHALL & others also the following Negroes, JIM, CLARISSA, PETE, HANNAH, JACKSON, BURWELL, DAVY, ALFRED & FANNY and also all his household & kitchen furniture. To have & to hold the above described property to the said DAVID DAY his Exors, Amrs, & assigns forever upon trust for the following purposes vizt that the said DAVID DAY his heirs & assigns shall hold possession of the above described property for the use & special support of the wife & children of the said JOHN G. BRADLEY during the life time of the said JOHN and that he the said JOHN G. BRADLEY is also to be supported out of the profits & enrollment arising annually from the above described property, and it is agreed upon & further declared that the said DAVID DAY his heirs or assigns are bound & is hereby compitted to reconvey the aforesaid property to the several children of the said JOHN & his wife so soon as they shall come of age share & share alike and if none of the said Children should not live to arrive at the age of twenty one years then the said DAVID DAY his heirs & assigns are to convey the above described property to the legal heirs of the said JOHN G. BRADLEY. In witness whereof the said JOHN G. BRADLEY & the said DAVID DAY have hereunto set their hands & seals the day & year above written.

To all people to whom these presents shall come know ye that I MARTHA BRANTLEY of the County of Halifax and State of North Carolina for the natural love and affection which I have and do bear unto my beloved niece SALLY RORY BRANTLEY daughter of my brother ROBERT BRANTLEY dec'd, and for divers other causes and considerations and hereunto moving have given granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the sd SALLY RORY BRANTLEY her heirs and assigns one Negro boy by the name of GUILFORD, To have and to hold the sd given slave unto the said SALLY RORY BRANTLEY her heirs or assigns & I the sd MARTHA BRANTLEY for myself my heirs, Exrs or Admrs the sd given slave unto the sd SALLY RORY BRANTLEY her heirs or assign will warrant and forever defend.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of Feb. 1805.

This Indenture made this 10 day of May in the year of our Lord 1785, between RICHARD BURT of the County of Halifax & province of No. Carolina of the one part and ABRAHAM SCOTT of the same county of the other part Witnesseth that the said RICHARD BURT for & in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds Virginia money to him in hand paid the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained sold and for himself his heirs or assigns doth hereby bargain grant & sell unto the said ABRAHAM SCOTT his heirs and assigns forever one tract or parcell of land and plantation in said County of Halifax containing by estimation two hundred acres situate lying and being in the aforesaid county Beginning at a W. Oak in the resurvey line BARROTs corner then along the said line to a little swamp at at gum then down the various courses of sd swamp to a red oak in the said swamp then to the beginning it being part of a tract of land purchased by EDMOND KEARNEY and the revertion and revertions remainder & remainders in all the right title & interests whatsoever of said RICHARD BURT of in or to the said premises and appertenances To have & to hold the said two hundred acres of land with the appertenances thereunto belonging unto the said ABRAHAM SCOTT his heirs & assigns forever he or they paying Qt rents for the same & the said RICHARD BURT for himself his heirs executors & administrators doth convert promise & agree with the said ABRAHAM SCOTT his heirs & assigns that the above granted premises are free & clear of all charges & incumbrances whatsoever and said RICHARD BURT heirs executors assigns shall & will warrant and defend the same to the said ABRAHAM SCOTT his heirs & assigns against the lawfully claims or demand of any person or person whatsoever in Witness whereof the said RICHARD BURT hath hereunto set his hand & affixed his seal the day & year above written.
