This Indenture made the 17th day of January, one thousand, seven hundred
& ninety five, as withim LANDFORD DAMERAL son of SARAH DAMERAL and seven
years to be bound to WILLIAM HARVEY of the county within to dwell,
reside & serve until the said LANDFORD shall arrive at the age of twenty
one years & according to an act of assembly in that case provided during
all which time the said said LANDFORD his said master shall faithfully
serve in all lawful business and orderly & obediently behaving himself
towards his master, During the said term as he ought to do, WILLIAM
HARVEY doth agree to find him lawful & sufficient food, meat & drink,
lodging & apparel & if the said master shall decease the said LANDFORD
shall not be free from this indenture, until the expiration of twenty
one years of age.
As witness hereunto the said SARAH DAMERAL and WILLIAM HARVEY have set

This indenture made and entered into this the twenty fourth day of
August one thousand eight hundred and seventy four, between JAMES DANIEL
and SUSAN DANIEL his wife of the State of North Carolina and County of
Halifax, of the first part and JANE RICHARDSON also of the above State
and County of the second part Witnesseth that the said party of the
first part for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars
the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged has given, granted
bargained, sold and conveyed, and by these presents do give, grant
bargain sell and convey to the said party of the second part her heirs
and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of land lying and situate in the
County of Halifax and state of North Carolina, and bounded as follows -
Beginning at a post oak on HILL's Road, at Union Church and running N.
27½ East 25½ poles to 2 white oaks and 2 dogwoods thence South 3° East
38 poles, to a small sweet gum, sweet gum pine and holly pointers,
thence South 77° East, 76 poles to 2 post oaks in LEWIS line thence with
his line to 24 East 39 poles to a stake in THROWER's line thence North
56° West 82½ poles, to a white oak on the aforesaid Road thence with
said Road to the beginning containing thirty three acres, to have and to
hold the same with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to JANE
RICHARDSON her heirs and assigns forever. And the said party of the
first part for the consideration aforesaid, does hereby covenant and
agree to warrant and defend the premises aforesaid to the said party of
the second part her heirs, Executors, Administrators & assigns against
the claims and entry of all persons whatsoever.
And the said party of the first part does further covenant that he is
seized of the said premises in fee simple and has proven to make and
convey such and estate by this indenture and has done the same by these
presents. In witness whereof the said party of the first part has
hereunto set his hand and seal - this the day and year above written.

purpose therein expressed, and thereupon the said SUSAN DANIEL being by
me privately examined apart from her said husband touching in voluntary
consent thereto, acknowledged that he had executed the same freely, and
without fear or compulsion of her said husband and do now voluntarily
assent thereto, and hereby relinquish right of dower in said lands.
Thereupon let the said Deed and this certificate be registered.

This Indenture made and entered into on this 23 day of April in the year
of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty by and between JAMES
DANIEL and his wife SUSAN DANIEL of the first part and JANE RICHARDSON
wife of NORFLEET RICHARDSON of the second part all of the above county
and State witnesseth, That for and in consideration of the sum of One
Hundred and five dollars to them in hand paid by the said party of the
second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said parties
of the first part have bargained and sold and by these presents do
bargain, sell and convey unto the said party of the second part her
heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land lying and situate in
said county and state, adjoining the lands of T. M. CARLISLE, F. M.
GARRETT & others it being the remainder of a tract of land containing
66¼ acres bought of T. M. CARLISLE by the said JAMES DANIEL on the 4th
day of March 1871, after selling 33 acres to the said JANE RICHARDSON,
and containing thirty three and one fourth acres as set forth in a
survey made by ROBERT BRINKLY on the 26th day of January 1874; To have
and to hold the above ascribed thirty three and one fourth acres of land
with the privilege and appurtenances thereto belonging, unto the said
party of the second part her heirs and assigns forever, And the said
parties of the first part for themselves their heirs and assigns as
warrant and will forever defend the above conveyed land unto the said
party of the second part her heirs and assigns against the claim or
claims of any and all parties whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said
parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals on the

every hundred acres hereby granted, paid into our Treasury by JOHN DAVIS
house given & granted & by these presents do give & grant unto the said
JOHN DAVIS a tract of land, containing one hundred one hundred & fifty
acres, lying & being in our County of Halifax, beginning at a corner
black jack & & sassafras on the side of a small branch in FRANCE WARD's
line, then north along said WARD's line one hundred & eleven poles to a
corner white oak, in STEPHEN MARSHALL's line, then West along said
MARSHALL's lien one hundred & sixty poles to a corner willow oak, then
South forty poles to a corner red oak, then West eighty eight poles to

sum of one hundred pounds specie paid in hand the right where of I do
hereby acknowledge myself satisfied and paid therefore do quit and
discharge the said JOHN RICHARDSON his heirs Ex'ors &c by these presents
hath bargained and sold by these presents JOHN RICHARDSON his heirs and
assigns forever a certain tract of Land lying and being in the County

part and JAMES BISHOP of the other part. Witnesseth that the said
THOROGOOD DEMPSEY for & in consideration of the sum of twenty one pounds
current money of Virginia to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof is
hereby acknowledged hath granted and sold aliened released enfeoffed &
confirmed unto the said JAMES BISHOP his heirs and assigns forever a
certain tract of land lying and being in the County of Halifax & State
of North Carolina containing forty acres be the same more or less and

behoof forever. And the said THOROGOOD DEMPSEY for himself his heirs &
doth covenant and agree to and with the said JAMES BISHOP and his heirs,

in the Registers Office of the County of Halifax in which said Deed the
said RICHARD hath conveyed to the said JOSIAH, WILLIAM & ETHELDRED upon
the Trust & for the purpose herein specified & set forth the following
Negroes namely JOE, GRACE, CHARLOTTE, ROSE, DICK, GRAND & MARINA
and whereas in pursuance of said Deed after the requisite notice the
said Negroes were offered to public sale on the 27 day of July 1820.
Now know all men by these presents that they the said JOSIAH, WILLIAM &
ETHELDRED in consideration of the sum of Twenty one hundred Dollars have
granted, bargained & sold to MARY POWELL the said Negroes namely JOE,
GRACE, CHARLOTTE, ROSE, DICK, GRAND & MARINA To have & to hold to
her the said MARY her Exrs, Admrs, as fully, freely & completely as the
above were ordered be held by the said JOSIAH, WILLIAM, & ETHELDRED by

Whereas by a deed executed by RICHARD H. DICKEN to JOSIAH COTTON,
WILLIAM ALSOBROOK & ETHELDRED JELKS dated 8th day of January 1820 &
Registered in the Registers office of the County of Halifax the said
RICHARD hath conveyed to the said JOSIAH, WILLIAM & ETHELDRED upon the
trust & for the purpose herein specified & set forth the right &
interest of him the said RICHARD to an undivided tract or parcel of land
adjoining the lands of BENJAMIN DICKEN & others which land fell to him
by the death of his father LEWIS DICKEN and whereas in pursuance of the
said Deed after giving the requisite notice the said land was exposed to
public sale on the 27th July 1820. Now this Indenture made this 4th day
of August 1820 between JOSIAH COTTON, WILLIAM ALSOBROOK & ETHELDRED
JELKS of the one part & MARY POWELL of the other part and all of the
County of Halifax & State of North Carolina Witnesseth that in
consideration of the sum of nine hundred dollars secured to be paid by
the said MARY POWELL to the said JOSIAH, WILLIAM & ETHELDRED. They the
said JOSIAH, WILLIAM & ETHELDRED have granted, bargained, sold, aliened
conveyed & confirmed & by these presents do grant bargain & sell, alien,
convey & confirm to the said MARY POWELL all the right & interest of him
the said RICHARD H. DICKEN to said undivided tract or parcel of land
lying in the County of Halifax & adjoining the lands of BENJAMIN DICKEN
& others which land fell to him by the death of his father LEWIS DICKEN.
To have & to hold the said land with all the right title & interest of
him the said RICHARD H. DICKEN & her the said MARY POWELL her heirs &
assigns forever. And they the said JOSEPH, WILLIAM & ETHELDRED for
themselves, their heirs, Excrs, & Admrs, do covenant & warrant to & with
the said MARY POWELL her heirs, Exrs, Admrs, & assigns the title to the
said land against the lawful claim or demand of all persons claiming in
by or through them. In witness whereof they the said WILLIAM, JOSIAH &
ETHELDRED have hereunto set their hands & seals the day & year above
written.

To the Justices of the County Court aforesaid the petition of DRURY
ALSOBROOK THOMAS DOLES sheweth that they are tenants in common with
BLOUNT ALSOBROOK in support to whom WM. ALSOBROOK in guardian of a tract
of land lying in Halifax County and bounded by the lands of JAMES
GORDON, the late JOHN ANTHONY and others which said land was late the
property of JOHN DOLES dec'd Your petitioners being desirous of having
the said land divided and appropriated in severalty are advised the same
cannot be done without the aid of this court they therefore pray your
worships to appoint 5 freeholders to divide & appropriate the said land
in severalty and report &c.

Agreeable to the petition of DREWRY ALSOBROOK & THOMAS DOLES the
following persons viz, BLOUNT JOYNER, JESSE A. DAWSON, WHITMEL COTTON,
JAMES SMITH & THOS. A.W. HUNTER are hereby appointed Commissioners to
divide and appropriate the land of JOHN DOLES dec'd mentioned in the
petition agreeable to the prayer thereof and according to an act of the
General Assembly in such case & provided & report.

Carolina, we the undersigned commissioners have divided and appropriated
& belonging to the Estate of JOHN DOLES dec'd in the following manner
agreeable to the plats annexed and as follows &c.
Lot No.1 -Drawing THOMAS DOLES beginning at a red oak in JAMES GORDON's
and DAVID CLARKS corner and running CLARK's line W 61 pole to a pine
then a new line S8 W94 pole to a water oak ANTHONY's corner then S88 E55
pole to JAMES GORDON's line and then N4 W to the beginning containing 45
acres.
Lot No.2 -Drawn by BLUNT ALSOBROOK beginning at pines in CLARK's line
corner of Lot No.1 then along said line W85 pole to a sweet gum CLARK's
other corner then along his line S93 pole to a pine ANTHONY's corner
then along his line E70 pole to a water oak his corner then a new line
N8 E to the beginning containing 45 acres.

Know all men by these presents that I THOMAS DOLES of Halifax County and
State of North Carolina being about to remove from this State and not
having it in my power to settle all my accounts nor dispose of all my
property, do by these presents give full power and authority to my
friend DRURY ALSOBROOK to dispose of any property I may leave, to adjust
my unsettled accounts, receive money that may be due me as well as all
other busines of any and all kinds whatsoever, furthermore I the said
THOMAS DOLES do empower the said DRURY ALSOBROOK to transact all and
every kind of business that I may leave unsettled in that way which he
may think proper & I hereby bind and oblige myself my heirs or assigns
to agee and confirm any contract he may make for me in my absence. In
witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 22nd day
of April 1811.

This Indenture made this twenty fourth day of November in the Year of
our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety six between JOHN DUBERRY of
Halifax County & State of North Carolina of the one part and ELIZABETH
MITCHELL of the County of Halifax & State aforesaid of the other part
Witnesseth that the said JOHN DUBERRY hath for & in consideration of the
sum of thirty pound No. Carolina currency to him in hand paid by the
said ELIZABETH MITCHELL the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge
hath bargained sold & delivered & for himself his heres &c doth hereby
acknowledge bargain & sell unto the said ELIZ'A MITCHELL her heirs &
assigns forever, an tract of land lying in the County aforesaid on the
main road. Beginning at the said road then running up the sd road No. 65
Wt. thence No. 45 Wt. then No. 45 Et. to WILLIAMSON HAILES line then
along his line to HENRY HAWKINS line thence to the plant of beginning,
containing forty acres & all the right title & interest whatsoever of
the said JOHN DUBERRY of in & to the said land & premises and the
appurtenances thereunto belonging To have & to hold the aforesaid forty
acres of land with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto her the
said ELIZABETH MITCHELL her heirs and assigns forever, and the said JOHN
DUBERRY for himself his heirs &c doth covenant promise to & with the
said ELIZABETH her heirs & assigns that the above granted premises are
clear & free of & from all charges incumbrances whatsoever and the said
JOHN DUBERRY his heirs &c Shall & will warrant and forever defend the
same to the said ELIZABETH MITCHELL her heirs &c against the lawfull
claim & demand of any person or persons whatsoever. In witness the sd

This Indenture made and concluded the ninth day of January in the year
of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and seventy five between
GEORGE DYER of Halifax County in Virginia of the one part and SOLOMON
HAWKINS of Halifax County in the province of North Carolina of the other
part Witnesseth that the said GEORGE DYER for and in consideration of
the sum of twenty pounds proclamation money to him in hand paid by the
said SOLOMON HAWKINS the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and
himself therewith to be fully satisfyed contented and paid hath granted
bargained and sold aliened enfeoffed & confirmed and by these presents
doth grant bargain & sell and unto his heirs and assigns forever one
certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation one hundred
acres be the same more or less and bounded as followeth beginning at
JOHN REYNOLDS corner red oak from thence running a South east course
along JAMES SMITH's line to a white oak from thence running an east
course to a black jack oak YANCEY's corner then running down YANCEY's
line to a maple a corner tree from thence running to JOHN REYNOLDS line
then along REYNOLDS line to the beginning with the reversion and
reversions and remainder & remainders with all and singular the
appurtenances there unto belonging or in any wise appurtaining To have
and to hold the said lands and premises unto the said SOLOMON HAWKINS
and unto his heirs and assigns for ever with all houses buildings
orchards woods waters and water courses with all and singular the
premises and further the said GEORGE DYER doth covenant and agree to
warrant and defend the title hereby made from all manner of persons
claiming the same and to make and execute further deed or deeds for the
greater surety or sure making of the premises if required by the said
SOLOMON HAWKINS or his heirs. In witness whereof the said GEORGE DYER
