This Indenture made the seventeenth day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred & sixty one Between BENJ'N HARDY & MARY his wife of the County of Halifax and HANNAH YANCEY widow of JECONIAS YANCEY of the County of Halifax & province of North Carolina on the one part and JOHN MINGE OF Charles City County & Colony of Virginia of the other part, witnesseth that they the afores'd BENJ'N HARDY & MARY his wife by and with the special advice and consent of the afores'd HANNAH YANCEY satisfied by her being a party at the ensealing & delivery of these presents for and in consideration of the sum of seventy five pounds current money of Virginia to them in hand already counted & paid the receipt whereof they do acknowledge and thereof and every part thereof they the afors'd BENJ'N HARDY & MARY his wife do forever acquit exonerate & discharge the afores'd JOHN MINGE his Exrs, Admrs & assigns by these have given granted bargained sold aliened released enfeoffed confirmed and do by these presents for themselves their heirs Exrs & assigns fully freely & absolutely give grant bargain sell alien release enfeoff & confirm unto the afores'd JOHN MINGE and unto his heirs & assigns forever all that half part as their own proper right and titles of Inheritance in fee simple of them the afores'd BENJ'N HARDY & MARY his wife in and unto in one tract & parcel of land lying & being in the County of Halifax & Province of North Carolina containing by estimation three hundred and one acres be the same more or less and bounded as followeth to wit beginning at a poplar spring on the Miry branch at a pine then North 30 West 220 pole to a red oak S.60 W.220 pole to a pine So. 30 E. 220 pole to a red oak N.60 E. 140 pole to a white oak N.75. E80 pole to the first Station which said land was purchased by WM ALSTON late of Edgecombe County deceased Father unto MARY HARDY now wife of BENJ'N HARDY afores'd of a certain JOHN LEONARD by deed bearing date the 27th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & fort one as by the afores'd deed will more fully appear and upon the death of the afores'd WM ALSTON deceased and came unto the afores'd MARY HARDY & her sister ELIZABETH CRAWFORD as coparcener and heirs unto their father WM ALSTON late of Edgecombe County deceased as afores'd and the reversion & reversions remainder & remainders and all the estate & estates right title interest claim or demand whatsoever either in law or Equity of them the afores'd BENJ'N HARDY & MARY his wife in the afores'd HANNAH YANCEY & their heirs into or out of the premises or all or any parcel thereof to have and to hold the said one half of the afores'd three hundred & one acres the same more or less unto the afores'd JOHN MINGE his heirs & assigns forever to the only proper use & behoof of the afs'd JOHN MINGE his heirs & assigns forever and the afores'd BENJ'N HARDY & MARY his wife do for themselves their heirs Excrs Admrs and Assigns hereby covenant promise grant & agree to and with the afores'd JOHN MINGE his heirs & assigns forever that they the afores'd BENJ'N HARDY & MARY his wife at the time of the ensealing & delivery of these presents have a good indefeasible estate in fee in fee simple in and to the premises and that they have full powere & lawfull right to sell & dispose of the same and that the said premises are free and clear of all charges & incumbrances whatsoever and that they the afores'd BENJ'N HARDY & MARY his wife & their heirs and either or any of them shall and will at any time and at all times hereafter do suffer or execute or came to be done suffer execute all and every such further lawfull and reasonable act and acts for the sure making or better assuming the premises or any part or parcel thereof as by the afs'd JOHN MINGE his heirs or assigns or their counsel learned in the law shall or can be advised devised or required and the afores'd BENJ'N HARDY & MARY his wife do and themselves their heirs & assigns & every of them and do warrant the premises unto the afores'd JOHN MINGE his heirs & assigns in as full clear & perfect a manner to all intents & purposes as a pure indefeasible estate in fee simple can be held or enjoyed and in witness thereof have hereunto set their hands & seals this day & year first within mentioned BENJ'N HARDY {seal} MARY HARDY {seal} Sealed & delivered in presence of JOHN EELBANK, DAVID CRAWLEY. This deed was in open court acknowledged in due form of law & MARY the wife of the afs'd BENJ'N HARDY & HANNAH YANCEY widow relict of JECOMIA YANCEY formerly of the premises being both privily & apart from the s'd BENJ'N examined by MONTFORT EELBECK Esq. each declared that she freely & willingly relinguished her dower & right in the lands & premises in this deed mentioned ordered it be registered.

This Indenture made this 22nd day of Jany. in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & five, between BENJAMIN HAWKINS of the State of North Carolina & County of Halifax of the one pt. & JOSEPH HAWKINS of the State & County afs'd of the other pt.
Witnesseth that the said BENJAMIN HAWKINS for and in consideration of the sum of eighty dollars to him in hand pd before the ensealing & delivery hereof the rt. whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold & made over unto the sd JOSEPH HAWKINS all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Halifax and State of North Carolina, Beginning at a white oak on the So. side of the main road, then So. 27 W. 20 po. to a red oak at JOSEPH HAWKINS gate, thence So. 87 Wt. 121 po. to a red oak JOSEPH HAWKINS corner thence No. 20 Et. 21 po. to the main road, thence down the said road to the beginning, containing by estimation fifteen acres & a half be the same more or less, with the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders rents issues & profits thereunto belonging or in any wide appertaining unto the said JOS. HAWKINS his heirs & assigns forever and the sd BENJAMIN HAWKINS for himself his heirs Excrs, Admrs & assigns doth covenant promise and agree to and with the said JOSEPH HAWKINS his heirs and assigns that the premises afs'd are free & clear of all manner of incumbrances whatever & that the said BENJAMIN HAWKINS his heirs Exrs, Admrs & assigns will warrant & forever defend the said granted land & premises to the said JOSEPH HAWKINS his heirs & assigns against the claim of him the said BENJAMIN HAWKINS or any other person whatever.

This Indenture made this 17th of April in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred & thirty one between BENJAMIN HAWKINS of the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina of the one part & SOLOMON HAWKINS of the County & State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that I the said BENJAMIN HAWKINS for & in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to me in hand paid by the said SOLOMON HAWKINS the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained & sold & by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto SOLOMON HAWKINS his heirs & assigns forever a certain or parcel of land lying & being in the County of Halifax & State of N.C. & on the waters of Hawtree Creek & bounded as follows (viz) Beginning at hickory & maple on the bank of Hawtree Creek formerly WILLIAM GILBERT's line now JOHN LEE's then W 126 poles to a post oak formerly JAMES MATTHEWS corner now BENJA KIMBALL's then S to a pine in a slash formerly JAMES MATTHEWS corner now BENJA KIMBALL' then E to a pine then N to the first station containing one hundred acres be the same more or less with all & singular, the premises thereto belonging To have & to hold the same with the appurtenances the clear & free from the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever unto the only proper use & behoof of him the said SOLOMON HAWKINS his heirs & assigns forever. This Indenture made the 20th day of February in the year of Our Lord 1817, between HENRY HAWKINS of the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina of the one part and JARRAD WEAVER of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said HENRY HAWKINS for & in consideration of the sum of one hundred and eighty dollars to him in hand paid by the said JARRAD WEAVER, the receipt is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain & sell alien release enfeoff convey & confirm unto the said JARRAD WEAVER his heirs and assigns forever that tract or parcel of land lying & being in the county & State aforesaid, containing by estimation sixty acres be the same more or less, bounded as follows,
Beginning at a stake in FINNEY's line, thence his line S 72E 148 poles to a stake in MYRICK's line, thence his line S & E 98 poles to a white oak BLOYSE's corner, thence his line S 83 W 62 poles to BASS' corner, thence the said BASS & FINNEYs line to the beginning. Together with all & singular the privileges & advantages of the said tract of land and its appurtenances whole sixty acres be the same more or less.
To have and to hold to the said JARRAD WEAVER his heirs & assigns forever to his & their only proper use & behoof forever. And the said HENRY HAWKINS doth for himself his heirs Exrs & Admrs. covenant & agree to & with the said JARRAD WEAVER his heirs & assigns that he will warrant and forever defend the right and title of the above bargained land & premises not only against himself and his heirs but against all manner of persons whatsoever.

Know all men by these presents that I ISHAM HAWKINS of the County of Davison and State of Tennessee do hereby nominate, constitute & appoint WILLIAM B. POPE of the County of Halifax in the State of North Carolina my true and lawful attorney in fact to demand & receive for me of & from any person or persons having possession of or liable for the same any money or movies goods or chattels which have descended or may descend that may be due or coming or may herafter become due to me as heir at law of one SOLOMON HAWKINS now deceased late of the County of Halifax and State of North Carolina and all necessary receipts, bonds & acquittances for me and in my name to execute for and about the cause. I do further empower my said attorney to sue for and recover the same or any part thereof whether the same be real or personal estate and for that purpose to make and employ one or more attorneys under him and do all other acts and filings necessary to accomplish the objects of this power at my expence and charge and I do further empower & authorize my said attorney for me & in my name to sell & convey to any person or persons their heirs & asigns forever who will purchase the same by general warranty deed in one or more tracts as he may think best any real estate that may have descended to me as said heir at law of said SOLOMON HAWKINS deceased lying in the County of Halifax in the State of North Carolina it being a tract of land in said County upon which said SOLOMON HAWKINS deceased lived at the time of his death (the boundaries of which are unknown to me) and take & receive the consideration money or take notes at his discretion he may also bring & prosecute in my name any suit that may be necessary to gain possession of or establish my title to the same employ such counsel or other aid as he may need at my expense & charge and I do hereby ratify and confirm any act or thing he may lawfully do in the premises as fully as if I were present and doing the same myself given under my hand & seal at Nashville, Davidson County in the State of Tennessee this fifth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five and in the eightieth year of American Independence.

This Indenture made and entered into this 18th day of August 1856 between WM. B. POPE agent & attorney for ISHAM HAWKINS of Nashville, Tennessee of the one part and JOHN LEE of Halifax County No. Carolina Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Ninety dollars & eighty cents paid by the said JOHN LEE to the said WILLIAM B. POPE the said WM B. POPE attorney as aforesaid hath this day bargained & sold unto the said JNO LEE one fifth part being one share in & to a tract or parcel of land lying & being in Halifax County on both sides of Hawtree Creek (the whole tract said to contain two hundred & two acres) it being part of the land upon which the late SOLOMON HAWKINS lived adjoining the lands of JOHN MABRY, JNO LEE & others and the said WILLIAM B. POPE by virtue of the power and authority of the power invested in him hereby warrant defend unto the said JOHN LEE one fifth part of said land which belonged to the said ISHAM HAWKINS to him the said JOHN LEE his heirs & assigns forever given under hand & seal the day & date above written.

This Indenture made this 8th day of August eighteen hundred & eighteen. Between JOSEPH HAWKINS of the one part and the Warden of the Poor for the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina of the other part, Witnesseth that the said JOSEPH HAWKINS for & in consideration of the sum of six hundred & fifteen dollars to him in consideration of the said Wardens, the receipt whereof the said JOS. HAWKINS doth hereby acknowledge & of every part thereof doth acquit & discharged the said Wardens are successors in office and by these presents doth give grant bargain sell & enfeoff & confirm unto them the said Wardens of the Poor for the County & State aforesaid & their successors in office forever all the tract of land whereon my late father JOSEPH HAWKINS dec'd formerly lived containing one hundred & twenty three acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows, Beginning at a red oak in JAMES JONES line, then S.19 E 54 poles to a pine in said JAMES line then S. 4 W. 102 poles to a branch thence the various courses of said branch tot he mouth of a small branch thence up the said branch to stake then N.83 W. 64 poles to a corner post oak in JAMES BOZEMAN's line, thence along his line N. 10 E.95 poles, then N.20 E. 21 poles to the road then the road S. 76 E. 26 poles, then S. 86 E. 56 poles, then N.86 E. 20 poles then N. 70 E.24 poles to a stake formerly a white oak corner thence S. 27 W. 20 poles to the beginning. Together with all houses, water & ways & all other the privileges to the same belonging, to have & to hold the said land & premises and all & singular the appertenances hereby given or intended to be given granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed & confirmed unto the said Wardens of the Poor for the time being & their successors in office sufficiently saved or kept harmless indemnified & from all other gifts grants bargains sales & dowries & wills & any other encumbrance whatsoever done or suffered to be done by the said JOSEPH HAWKINS or any other person or persons. NANCY HAWKINS to SOLOMON HAWKINS (Nephew)-1819

Know all men by these presents that I NANCY HAWKINS for & in consideration of the natural love & affection which I have & bear towards my nephew SOLOMON HAWKINS & for the consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by the said SOLOMON the receipt whereof I acknowledge have given granted & conveyed unto the said SOLOMON a certain piece or parcel of land lying in the county of Halifax and State of North Carolina.
Beginning at a pine JAMES MATTHEWS line, then W 80 poles to a pine & white oak in said MATTHEWS line, then S 100 poles to a spanish oak & pine in the old line, then E 80 pole to a corner pine, then N 100 poles to the first station, containing fifty acres, together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging.
And I the said NANCY HAWKINS hereby bind my self my heirs &c to warrant & forever defend the right & title of said land &c, to the said SOLOMON, his heirs &c forever.

This Indenture made this tenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty five between SAMUEL HAWKINS of the County of Halifax in the Province of North Carolina of the one part and MATTHEW GILBERT of the County and province aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said SAMUEL HAWKINS for and in consideration f the sum of ten pounds specie to him in hand paid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge myself fully satisfied and paid and therefore do acquit and discharge the said MATTHEW GILBERT his heirs &c by these presents hath bargained granted and sold by thes presents SAMUE HAWKINS his heirs &c for certain tract of land lying and being in the county of Halifax & province of North Carolina fourteen acres more or less lying on the north side of Little Fishing Creek beginning at WILLIAM GILBERT's corner on the creek running west along GILBERT's line to the creek thence down the creek to the first station as by the platt hereunto annexed doth appear together with all underwoods, waters, mines, minerals, hereditaments to the said land belonging in appertaining to hold to the said MATTHEW GILBERT his heirs and assigns forever yielding and paying to us such sums money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may direct or provide laws that to the said MATTHEW GILBERT shall cause this grant to be registered in the Registers office in this county within twelve months from this date and I SAMUEL HAWKINS of, in and to the same or any part or parcel thereof To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land & premises with the appertenances with the only proper use and behoof of the said MATTHEW GILBERT his heirs &c forever and the said SAMUEL HAWKINS for himself and his heirs the above said tract of land and every part and parcel thereof with all and every the appertenances against him his or all other persons whatsoever unto the said MATTHEW GILBERT belongs, his heirs &c forever shall & will warrant and defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said SAMUEL HAWKINS hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal this day.

Reference thereunto being first had the reversion and reversion remainder and remainders yearly rentor rents Issues and profits thereof & of every part thereof and the Estate & Estates right title trust in trust claim and demand whatsoever either in land in equity of been the said SOLOMON HAWKINS his heirs and assigns into or ext of the premises and their appurtenances and every and any art thereof To have and to hold the said tract of Land and all and singular the other hereby granted premises with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said WILLIAM KINCHEN his heirs and assigns forever, and the said SOLOMON HAWKINS covenants and grants to and with the said WILLIAM KINCHEN his heir and assigns that he hath a freed Estate in fee simple in & to the premises. SIMMONS may sell all or any part of the property herein conveyed after advertising ten days at three or more public places & out of the moneys or proceeds of such sale to retain all the necessary expenses of the trust & then pay off & discharge the said debt & interest or such part thereof as shall remain unpaid at the time of said sale & the overplus if any shall truly & faithfully return to the said THOMAS HEDGEPETH[sic] his Executors or Administrators. This Indenture made this ninth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & thirty two between HERBERT HICKS of the first part JESSE JOHNSTON of the second part & THOMAS C. WILLIS of the third part all of the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina. Witnessesth that whereas I the said HERBERT HICKS is firstly indebted to THOMAS C. WILLIS in the sum of seventeen dollars in a judgment with interest from the 11th of April 1829
& cost $1.80 and the said HERBERT HICKS is desirous to secure & pay the said THOS. C. WILLIS and whereas JESSE JOHNSTON have been chosen for the purpose hereafter mention. Now this Indenture witnesseth that I the said HERBERT HICKS for & in consideration of the premises & the further sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by JESSE JOHNSTON the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained sold & conveyed and by these presents do bargain sell convey & confirm unto the said JESSE JOHNSTON his heirs & assigns forever one tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina containing by estimation forty acres be the same more or less and being the same whereon I the sd HICKS now lives adjoining the land of WILLIAM MILLS, KINCHEN TONY & others. To have & to hold the same tract or parcel of land together with all the appurtenances & tenants belonging & all the right title or claim of him the said HERBERT HICKS to the same unto him the said JESSE JOHNSTON. Nevertheless the Indenture is upon this condition that if the said HERBERT HICKS shall fail to pay the above mentioned sum then & in that case it shall be lawful & full power & authority as hereby given unto said JESSE JOHNSTON whenever requested by the said THOS. C. WILLIS his heirs Exors. Adm'rs or assigns to sell the said tract or parcel of land at public sale for ready money after giving ten ten days previous notice thereof and out of the proceeds of such sale to pay to the said THOS. C. WILLIS the aforesaid sum of money & all lawful interest arising therefrom together with on cost charges & expenses attending such sale & for the execution of this Trust and the balance if any to return to the said HERBERT HICKS his heirs &c. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands & affixed our Seals the day & year above written.
