Know all men by these presents that I ABRAHAM SCOTT of the County
aforesaid being in my perfect understanding and willing to bestow a few
things the Lord has pleas to bestow me I knew that I give to ABRAHAM
RICHARDSON son of my daughter ABIGAIL RICHARDSON, two better beds two
rugs four sheets two bowlsters one large iron pot one loom and gear, and
dozen pewter spoons one tin pan 2 tin cups, 1 tray water pail, barrel &
washing tub, five earthen plates, one saw and 2 pair pot hooks, all of
which I freely give to the said ABRAHAM RICHARDSON leaving of all in the
possession of his mother ABIGAIL RICHARDSON in the presence of these two
persons JAMES READ and JAMES McDANIEL.

Know all men by these presents that I JAMES SIMMONS Shff of the County
of Halifax by virtue of an execution in favor of EATON PULLEN against
ISAAC RICHARDSON & to me directed did on the 20th day of August 1828
expose to sale at public vendue having previously duly advertised &
levied the same agreeable to law one tract or parcel of land lying &
being in the County & State aforesaid adjoining the lands of COL. ISHAM
MATTHEWS, BENJ'A KIMBALL, & Others & said to contain 100 acres more or
less as returned by a constable containing by estimation 100 acres more
or less together with the appurtenances thereunto belonging. At which
sale EATON PULLEN became the last & highest bidder in the sum of thirty
two dollars for the said land & appurtenances thereunto belonging. Now I
the same JAMES SIMMONS Sheriff of the county aforesaid for & in
consideration of the sum of thirty two dollars to me in hand paid by the
said EATON PULLEN at & before the sealing & signing of these presents
the receipt whereof I do acknowledge I do hereby bargain sell alien
enfeoff survey & confirm unto the said EATON PULLEN his heirs & assigns
forever all the aforesaid tract of land & appurtenances with all right
title claim or demand of or unto the aforesaid tract of land with all
its hereditaments & emoluments to the same belonging or in anywise
appertaining. To have & to hold to him the said EATON PULLEN his heirs &
assigns forever in as full & ample a manner as I the said Sheriff am
empowered by virtue of my office and further I the said Sheriff do
hereby promise covenant & grant to & with the said EATON PULLEN his
heirs & assigns, that he the said EATON PULLEN his heirs & assigns shall
& may from time to time & at all times hereafter have hold, possess
occupy & enjoy the said premises with the appurtenances full & clear of
& from all incumbrances have made done or committed by me the said Shff,
or by my order or procurement. And that I JAMES SIMMONS Shff will
warrant & defend the same to the aforesaid EATON PULLEN his heirs &
assigns forever so far as my office of Shff will admit & no further. In

thousand eight hundred & five, between MARY SIKES of the County of
Halifax & State of North Carolina of the one pt. and ELIZABETH HAWKINS

Witnesseth that I the said MARY SIKES for the consideration of thirty
pounds to me in hand pd hath bargained sold set over & delivered unto
the sd ELIZA HAWKINS one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being
in the County afsd on the waters of Haw-tree Swamp bounded as follows:
Beginning at a pine in JAMES MATTHEW's line, then W. 80 po. to a pine &
white oak in sd MATTHEW's line then So. 100 po. to a Spanish oak and a
pine in the old line. Then Et. 80 po. to a corner pine then No. 100 po.
to the first station, containing fifty acres, it being pt of a tract of
land that STEPHEN SAMSON purchased of TIMOTHY MATTHEWS with every
privilege thereunto sd land belonging or in any wise pertaining unto sd
ELIZA HAWKINS her her heirs or assigns forever, & I the sd MARY SIKES do
forever warrant & defend the right & title of sd land against the claim
or claims of any person or persons claiming or holding the same or any
pt. thereof.

To all people to whom these presents shall come, I, JAMES SMITH of
Halifax County & State of North Carolina send greeting, Know ye that I
the said JAMES SMITH for divers causes and considerations moving me
hereunto but especially for the natural love & good will & affection I
have & do bear to my grand daughter POLLY TURNER BAKER & to SIMMONS
JONES BAKER her husband, hath given, granted, conveyed, confirmed & by
these presents fully & freely give & grant convey & confirm to them the
the said POLLY TURNER BAKER and SIMMONS JONES BAKER to them their heirs
& assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land lying on the East
side of the Cypress Swamp adjoining the old plantation the property of
the said POLLY TURNER BAKER viz a tract of land bought of HAM, one ditto
bought of JONES, one ditto bought of COUNCIL also a tract lying in the
said Swamp adjoining the old plantation on the East side of said swamp &
adjoining a tract or parcel of land lying on the west side of the said
Cypress Swamp known by the name of HANCOCK Plan. also the afors'd tract
or parcel of land known by the name of HANCOCK plan bought of DREW; also
a tract or parcel of land on the East side of Deep Creek containing two
hundred acres more or less, beginning at an oak on the side of the hill
near the low grounds of the said creek called BYNUM's Corner, running
the said line to another corner pine, thence along the said line to the
road leading to Deep Creek bridge, thence along the said road leading to
the said bridge to two white oaks on the right hand of the said road
near barn, thence a straight course through the field, down to a pine
where the cross fence now joins the fence on the marsh, BYNUM's corner;
I also give unto my grand daughter POLLY TURNER BAKER & SIMMONS JONES
BAKER her husband for reasons above mentioned the following Negroe man
named DANIEL and his wife SILVIA, one Negro girl called
HARTY, one Negro boy called DANIEL, one Negro boy called
NELSON, one Negro girl called MELBRA, one Negro child called
ROSETTE, also one Negro man called PETER & his wife
JUDE; one Negro boy JOE, and Negro boy called CAMDEN,
one Negro girl called ESTHER, one Negro child called GUY,
also one Negro man called GUY & his wife SYLER, one Negro
woman called PAT & her child called SUE, one Negro boy
called LEWIS, one Negro girl called SABRAH, one Negro boy
called ALLAN, one Negro man called ROBBIN, one Negro man
called REDDICK, one Negro man called CHARLES, one Negro
man called JUPITER & one Negro man called little PETER,
also all the horses, sheep & plantation utensils belonging to the
aforesaid tracts of land with reversion & reversions, remainder and
remainders, & all the rights & estate of him the said JAMES SMITH unto
the said land and premises & horses, Negroes, sheep & farming utensils.
To have & to hold forever hereafter the said given & granted land &
premises, Negroes, horses, sheep & farming utensils with all the
appurtenances & privileges belonging thereunto or any way appertaining
to them the said POLLY TURNER BAKER & SIMMONS JONES BAKER their heirs
and assigns forever to their only proper use benefit & behoof forever
and the said JAMES SMITH for himself his heirs, executors & and
administrators doth covenant, promise & agree to with them that they the
said POLLY TURNER BAKER & SIMMONS JONES BAKER, their heirs & assigns
shall & may at all times forever hereafter lawfully, peaceably possess &
enjoy the aforesaid land & premises, Negroes, horses, sheep, & farming
utensils, free clear from all persons claiming by right or under
him the said JAMES SMITH & that the said JAMES SMITH his heirs the afs'd
land & premises, Negroes, horses, sheep && farming utensils unto them
the said POLLY TURNER BAKER & SIMMONS JONES BAKER their heirs & assigns
will well & truly warrant & forever defend against all persons claiming

This Indenture made and entered into this 31st day of January (1851)
Eighteen fifty one between JOSEPH J. SMITH and JOHN SMITH his father of
the one part and JAMES BISHOP of the other part all of the County of
Halifax and State of North Carolina. Witnesseth that whereas the said
JOSEPH J. SMITH is entitled to a fee simple estate in a certain piece a
parcel of land under the last will and testament of ANN HAWKINS dec'd.
And the said JOHN SMITH his father being also entitled to a life estate
in the same. This therefore witnesseth that for and in consideration of
the sum of Two hundred dollars in hand paid or secured to be paid to the
said JOSEPH J. SMITH and the said JOHN SMITH (his father) hath granted
bargained, sold, conveyed and confirmed, and do by these presents, grant
bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto the said JAMES BISHOP his heirs
Executors Administrators and assigns one certain tract or parcel of land
together with the premises, ways, water courses &c, situate and being in
the County of Halifax State of North Carolina, whereon the said JOHN
SMITH now resides lying on the Southside of Big Quanky Creek on the road
leading from Halifax Town to Warrenton and bounded by the lands of the
said JAMES BISHOP and others and containing ninety four acres more or
less. To have and to hold the said land and premises together with all
the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to the
same, unto the said JAMES BISHOP his heirs &c and the said JOSEPH J.
SMITH and the said JOHN SMITH for themselves their heirs &c doth hereby
covenant to and with the said JAMES BISHOP his heirs &c that they will
forever warrant and defend unto the said JAMES BISHOP all their righ
title & interest in and to the said land and premises above mentioned
against the claim of them the said JOSEPH and JOHN SMITH or any other
person or persons whatsoever, lawfully claiming the same.

Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & fifty between JOSEPH J. SMITH of the
one part & JOHN LEE of the other part both of the County of Halifax &
State of North Carolina Witnesseth that the said JOSEPH J. SMITH for &
in consideration of the sum of forty dollars & forty cents to have in
hand paid by the said JOHN LEE at or before the sealing & delivery of
these presents, the receipt whereof the JOSEPH J. SMITH doth hereby
acknowledge he the said JOSEPH J. SMITH hath granted bargained & sold &
by these presents do grand bargain & sell alien enfeoff, release &
confirm unto the said JOHN LEE, his heirs & assigns forever, a certain
tract or parcel of land situated lying & being in the County of Halifax
& State aforesaid, containing by estimation two hundred & two acres, be
it the same, more or less & lying both sides of Hawtree Creek and
adjoining the lands of the said JOHN LEE, JOHN MABRY & WASHINGTON MABRY
it being the land that formerly belonged to the late SOLOMON HAWKINS
decd. I the said JOSEPH JOHN SMITH being one of the heirs of the late
SOLOMON HAWKINS, will & do warrant & defend our fifth part of the
aforesaid tract, or parcel of land, to the said JOHN LEE to him & his

The petition of HENRY SLEDGE sheweth to your Worshipfuls that he has
become the purchaser of child's part of a certain tract of land formerly
owned by URIAH SMITH who died leaving NATHANIEL SMITH, ELIZABETH SMITH,
who intermarried with ALLEN POWELL in whose right your petitioner now
claims having purchased for valuable consideration the share of said
ALLEN & ELIZABETH of the aforesaid land containing three hundred & fifty
acres more or less, lying adjacent to the lands of SOLOMON POWELL,
BURKETT VINCENT & others the number of heirs are besides those above
mentioned one MELISSA JURINER, JAMES & CATHERINE I. SMITH, now the wife
of PLEASANT CRUMP, GEORGE, TAMERLAIN, LITTLEBERRY & URIAH SMITH to the
four latter of whom PENELOPE SMITH is the present guardian. Therefore
your petitioner prays that you must appoint Commissioners to lay off &
allot to him the proportionable share of the aforesaid ALLEN & ELIZABETH
of the aforesaid premises & report the same to the next Worshipful Court
of Pleas & Quarter Sessions & that notice of the petition be served upon
the aforesaid legatees & their guardians as in duly your petitioners
will ever pray.

This Indenture made the sixth day of August in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and eighty five, between ZACHARIAH SMITH of the
County of Halifax and State of North Carolina planter on the one part
and ANN HAWKINS of the County and State aforesaid single woman on the
other part. Witnesseth that the aforesaid ZACHARIAH SMITH doth for and
in consideration of the sum of eight pounds current money the receipt
whereof he doth acknowledge hath given granted bargained sold released
and confirmed and doth by these presents give grant bargain sell release
and confirm unto the said ANN HAWKINS and unto her heirs and assigns
forever one certain quantity or dividend of land situate lying and being
in the County of Halifax on the north waters of the Marsh Swamp,
containing one hundred acres be the same more or less, to wit: beginning
at a pine a new made corner in his other land on the Marsh Swam, thence
line of marked trees to a white oak a new made corner in the old line
then along the old line to the center of three pines then on the old
line to red oak in the old line and down on the old line to the first
station and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders and
all the estate or estates right property or interest of the aforesaid
ZACHARIAH SMITH or his heirs or assigns either in law or equity in or
out of the premises or to any part or parcel thereof to have and to hold
the aforesaid granted premises to the aforesaid ANN HAWKINS and to her
heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of the
aforesaid ANN HAWKINS her heirs assigns forever provided nevertheless
that if the aforesaid ZACHARIAH SMITH his heirs executors or assigns
shall repay unto the aforesaid ANN HAWKINS on the first day of January
that shall be in the year 1787 the full and just sum of eight pounds &
at the said time of payment shall make up any depensation that may
happen between this time and the said time of payment aforesaid and also
with good and lawful interest arising upon the same from the day of the
date hereof the then deed of bargain and sale to be void and of none
effect and in witness thereof the aforesaid ZACHARIAH SMITH hath
hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year last afore mentioned.

Halifax & State of North Carolina of the one part & DANIEL COLEMAN of
the same County & state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the
said ZACHERIAH SULLIVANT for & in consideration of the sum of three
hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said DANIEL COLEMAN the
receipt whereof the said ZACHERIAH SULLIVANT doth hereby acknowledge
that he hath bargained & sold aliened & confirmed unto the said DANIEL
COLEMAN the following parcels of land lying & being in the County &
state aforesaid & bounded as follows beginning at the mouth of the Great
Branch & running up said branch to TELMELA SMITH's line then along
SMITH's line N 45 E40 poles then N50 E40 poles then N 68 E 30 poles then
N 72 W78 E16 poles then due E20 poles to the head of a small branch then
down the meanders of said branch to an ash on Rocky Swamp then down run
of sd Swamp to the beginning containing by estimation one hundred &
fifty acres be the same more or less, to have & to hold the above
bargained demised premises in a sure & perfect Estate in fee simple unto
the said DANIEL COLEMAN his heirs forever and the said ZACHERIAH
SULLIVANT doth oblige himself his heirs &c to warrant the said not only
against themselves their heirs &c but against all manner of persons or
persons whatsoever unto the said DANIEL COLEMAN his heirs & assigns
