Know all men by these presents that we EXUM JAMES & NANCY JAMES his wife who was NANCY HAWKINS for & in consideration of fifty dollars to us in hand paid by RANDAL CARTER the receipt whereof we hereby acknowledge. We have given granted bargained sold & conveyed unto the said RANDAL CARTER his heirs & assigns forever all the Land to which we are entitled in the Division of the Land of SOLOMON HAWKINS dec'd lying in the County of Halifax, N.C. reference the Division will show Bounds be containing fifty acres more or less. To have & to hold said property to said R. CARTER his heirs & assigns forever. And the said EXUM JAMES & NANCY JAMES for themselves & their hereby covenant & agree to warrant & defend the title of said property to said RANDAL CARTER, his heirs & assigns forever. Given under our hands & seals this 20th January 1831.

Know all men by these presents that I AXIOM JAMES of the County of Williamson & State of Tennessee expressing confidence & trust in the honesty & integrity of JEREMIAH JAMES of the County & State aforesaid & for other good causes & considerations we thereunto moving have & do hereby constitute nominate & appoint the said JEREMIAH JAMES my attorney in fact and for me & in my name & under seal to sell all & any land which I own in the County of Halifax State of North Carolina & in my name & stead to make sign Seal & deliver a deed for the same with covenant of general warrants to the purchaser hereby ratifying and confirming all that my said attorney in fact shall do touching the premises. In testimony whereof I the said AXIOM JAMES have this 3rd day of December in the year 1832 in these presence hereto put my hand & seal.

This Indenture made this twenty third day of January in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred & forty nine between NATHAN JEFFREYS & his wife LUCY JEFFREYS of the County of Caswell & JOHN LEE of the County of Halifax all of the State of North Carolina Witnesseth that whereas the said NATHAN JEFFRIES [sic] & Wife LUCY JEFFRIES for & in consideration of forty dollars thirty seven & half cents to them in hand paid by the said JOHN LEE at & before the sealing & delivering of these presents the receipt whereof the said NATHAN JEFFRIES & his wife LUCY JEFFRIES doth hereby acknowledge he the said NATHAN JEFFRIES & Wife LUCY hath granted bargained & sold & by these presents do grant bargain & sell alien enfeoff release & confirm unto the said JOHN LEE his heirs & assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land and situate lying & being in the County of Halifax & State aforesaid lying on both sides of Hawtree Creek containing by estimation two hundred & two acres it being the lands of the late SOLOMON HAWKINS adjoining the lands of JOHN LEE, JOHN MABRY & Others We he said NATHAN JEFFRIES & LUCY his wife being one of the heirs of the late SOLOMON HAWKINS do warrant & defend one fifth part of the said tract of land unto JOHN LEE his heirs & assigns forever In witness whereof the said NATHAN JEFFRIES & Wife LUCY hath hereunto set our hands & seals the day & year above written

This indenture made the 7th day of January 1852 between NATHAN JEFFREYS agent for BENJAMIN HAWKINS on the one part JOHN LEE SR. of the other part witnesseth that for & in consideration of the sum of forty & 40/100 dollars to the said NATHAN JEFFREYS in hand paid for the said BENJAMIN HAWKINS hath granted & bargained sold aliened & confirmed & by these presents doth grant bargain & sell alein & confirm unto the said JOHN LEE & his heirs a certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County & State above written bounded as follows by the land of JOHN MABRY, WASHINGTON MABRY & JOHN LEE & containing by estimation two hundred & two acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the land hereby conveyed unto the said JOHN LEE his heirs & assigns forever. And I the said NATHAN JEFFREYS agent for the said BENJAMIN HAWKINS for his heirs & assigns doth warrant & defend the title of forty & 40/100 acres & the above mentioned tract of land against the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons In witness whereof the said NATHAN JEFFREYS agent for the said BENJAMIN HAWKINS hath hereunto set his hand seal this the day & year before mentioned.

This Indenture made this the 20th day of January Eighteen hundred and sixty between WM S. JENKINS Agent for FRANCIS COUSIN of the State & County above said of the first part, and GRANVILLE MAYO of the above State and County of the other part witnesseth, that the said WM S. JENKINS Agent, hath in consideration and for the sum of Sixty nine dollars hath bargin[sic], sold & conveyed unto the said GRANVILLE MAYO a tract or parcel of land lying in said County and State above named, bounded as follows, commencing at a corner pine on Deep Creek thence South to JOHN MAYO's line, thence, West to the mill path, thence along said path to a mouth of a deep gully thence with the meanders of said branch to Deep Creek thence down said Creek to the beginning. Supposed to contain twenty four and a half acres the same more or less, whereof I the said WM S. JENKINS as Agent for FRANCIS COUSIN doth warrant and defend the right herein made myself my heirs and assigns forever. This Indenture made this 25th day of September A.D. one thousand eight hundred and sixty one between WILLIAM S. JENKINS of the first part and ALEXANDER MILLS of the second part. Witnesseth that the said WILLIAM S. JENKINS for and in consideration of one hundred and fifty dollars to the said WILLIAM JENKINS in hand paid by the said ALEXANDER MILLS the receipt hereof hath granted bargained and sold and by ALEXANDER MILLS a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Halifax State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of RICHARD CARPENTER, JNO MAYO and others and known by the MARTHA HARVEY tract of land and beginning at JNO MAYO and MARTHA HARVEY corner thence near South to WILLIAM TONY's corner thence near East along WILLIAM TONY's line to a corner in RICHARD CARPENTER's line thence near North to a corner and along said CARPENTER's line to JNO. MAYO line thence near West along said MAYO line to the beginning, containing forty acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold unto the said ALEXANDER MILLS and his heirs and assign forever. JENKINS of the State of North Carolina Halifax County of the first part and KINCHEN HILYARD BROWN of said State and Halifax County of the other part. Witnesseth the said WILLIAM S. JENKINS hath in consideration and for the sum of fifty dollars hath bargained sold and conveyed unto the said KINCHEN HILYARD BROWN a tract or parcel of Land lying in the above said State and County aforesaid and known by being one half of the WILLIAM TONY tract of land being on the East end of said tract of land and bounded on the East by RICHARD CARPENTER' on the South by the NANCY CARTER tract of land on the West by JOHN MAHO and on the North by PATSY HARVEY tract of land containing fifteen acres be the same more or less the right and title him of the said WILLIAM S. Pursuant to the annexed order to me directed I, JAMES SIMMONS Shff of the County aforesaid have summoned & caused to appear before me twelve good & lawfulmen for the purpose of laying off to MRS. ELIZABETH JONES widow of RICHARD JONES her dower in the lands he died seized & possessed of having proceeded to the same & by the consent of all the heirs they being of lawful age have allotted to the sd MRS ELIZABETH JONES the dwelling house & the tract of land whereon it stands containing one hundred & sixty eight acres. And also the tract of land bought of MR. LITTLE dec'd on the East side of Mill Swamp containing Eleven hundred & thirty Eight acres.
Whe have also agreeable to the same order proceeded to lay off her sd portion of the Negro Slaves said RICHARD JONES died possessed of and have alloted to her Lot No. 4 containing Eleven Negroes named as follows, viz, PETER, CHARLES, DINWIDDIE JUN'R, CORNELIUS, TEMPEY, ANGY, HARTWELL, FERRY, DIANNA child JEFFERSON & LOUISA, Amounting in value to Twenty five hundred & Sixty Dollars being forty three Dollars Sixty six & 2/0 cents less than her proportion and that the administrator pay to the said MRS. JONES that amount. We have not take into consideration debts due to the Estate money on hand, bank stock or any of the perishable property whatever. Given under our hands & seals this 9th day June Eighteen hundred & thirty two.

Know all men by these presents that I GUILFORD JONES of the Town of Halifax and State of North Carolina have made, ordained, authorized, nominated and appointed and by these presents do make, ordain, nominate and appoint MR. BENJAMIN HAWKINS of the County of Halifax and State aforesaid, my true and lawfull attorney, for me and in my name, and for my use & benefit to ask, demand, sue for, recover and receive all sums of money, debts and demands whatsoever, which are now due & owing to me, and to use and take all lawfull ways and means for the recovery thereof, and to grant acquittances or other sufficient discharges for the same for me and in my name, to make, seal and deliver and to do all other lawful acts and things whatsoever, as fully and in every respect as myself might or could do were I personally present.

Know all men by these presents that I HARWOOD JONES of Northampton County for & in consideration of the sum of Twenty five hundred Dollars to me in hand paid or secured to be paid by GEORGE GOODWIN of Halifax County have bargained sold & conveyed & by these presents do bargain sell & convey unto the said GEORGE GOODWIN his heirs & assigns forever all the lands owned by me in Halifax County on the marsh swamp commonly called & known by the name of Meads tract which said lands were devised to me by my late uncle HARWOOD JONES dec'd. To have & to hold the aforesaid lands with their appurtenances unto the said GEORGE GOODWIN his heirs & assigns to the only proper use & behoof of the said GEORGE GOODWIN his heirs & assigns forever. And I the said HARWOOD JONES for myself my heirs Exors. & do by these presents covenant & grant to & with the said GEORGE GOODWIN his heirs & assigns to warrant & forever defend the above bargained premises with the appurtenances unto the said GEORGE GOODWIN his heirs & assigns against the claim & demand of all & every person & persons whatever. By virtue of a Deed in Trust from JOHN H. DAWSON to me dated 6th April 1842 & which is now of Record in the Registers office of the County of Martin State of North Carolina I advertised & sold the Negroes named in the said Deed according to the provisions thereof. & TEMPERANCE W. DAWSON became the last & highest bidder for said Negroes (to wit) BILL, JACOB, WASHINGTON & ABRAM at the sum of Eighteen hundred dollars. Now for & in consideration of the said sum of Eighteen hundred Dollars to me in hand paid by the said TEMPERANCE W. DAWSON or secured to be paid I have bargained & sold & by these presents do bargain sell & convey to the said TEMPERANCE W. DAWSON by virtue of the Deed aforesaid the said Negro Slaves BILL JACOB WASHINGTON & ABRAM. To have & to hold the said Negroes to her the said TEMERANCE W. DAWSON her Executors Administrators & assigns forever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 10 June 1842.
