Know all men by these presents, that we, JAMES S. PEARSON, & JOHN
HOCKADAY, of the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina, Executors
of WARWICK HOCKADAY, dec'd, for & in consideration of the sum of ten
dollars to us in hand paid, the receipt which we do hereby acknowledge
have bargained sold & conveyed and by these presents do bargain, sell &
confirm by authority given us in the will of the said WARWICK HOCKADAY,
unto SAMUEL CARTER of the County & State aforesaid, a small lot of land
adjoining the lands of JOHN MAYHO & WILLIAM HOCKADAY & containing by
survey four and one fourth acres, be the same more or less. To have & to
hold the said acquired lot of land and all the appurtenances &
privileges thereunto attached. And the said JAMES S. PEARSON & JOHN
HOCKADAY, hereby agrees to warrant & defend all the right & title to
said land vested in them by authority of the said WARWICK HOCKADAY's
Will & no further Given under our hands & seals this fifth day of April,
1854.

This Indenture made & entered into this 15th day of April eighteen
hundred & fifty between WILLIE PERRY of the County of Franklin & State
of NC of the one part & THOMAS P. MATTHEWS of the County of Halifax &
State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said WILLIE PERRY
for & in consideration of the sum of five thousand dollars to him in
hand paid by the said THOMAS P. MATTHEWS the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged hath grant bargained sold & conveyed and by these presents
doth grant bargain sell & convey unto the said THOMAS P. MATTHEWS his
heirs & assigns a certain tract or parcel of land in the County of
Halifax & State of North Carolina situated on the waters of Fishing
Creek adjoining the lands of BENJAMIN JOHNSTON, SAMUEL L. ARRINGTON &
JAMES CARTER NICHOLSON & bounded as follows (to wit) beginning at a
mulberry on Big Fishing Creek just below the mouth of Little Fishing
Creek & from thence running N 10E 40 poles then W 38 poles then N4 W 22
poles thence N3 E 42 poles then N7 E 115 poles to a dogwood then N 63
pole to a white oak then S 88 E 55½ pole to a post oak & elm then N 142
poles to a stick & post oak then N 1 E 45½ poles to a post oak & black
jack then S 82 E 4 poles to the road then up the road 260 poles to a
post oak BENJAMIN JOHNSTON's corner then along a line of marked trees to
Little Fishing Creek then down the Creek to the beginning containing
thirteen hundred acres more or less. The same being land which descended
to the heirs at law of the late HENRY PERRY of the County of Halifax &
State aforesaid; and at the instance of BENNETT PERRY & others by
petition filed in the Court of Equity for the County of Nash & State
aforesaid was decreed to be sold by the Clerk & master of said Court at
which sale WILLIE PERRY became the purchaser as will appear by a deed
executed to him by BENJAMIN H. BLOUNT Clerk & Master of the Court
aforesaid bearing date the 16th day of March eighteen hundred forty
seven. To have & to hold the said lands & premises to him the said
THOMAS P. MATTHEWS his heirs & assigns in fee simple. And the said
WILLIE PERRY & his heirs all & singular the premises hereby conveyed to
the said THOMAS P. MATTHEWS his heirs & assigns doth hereby warrant &
defend from the lawful claim or claims of any & all persons. In
testimony whereof the said WILLIE PERRY doth hereunto set his hand &
seal the day & date above written.

This Indenture made the 20th day of September in the year of our Lord
1860, between JOHN B. PITTMAN of the Parish of Lafourche, State of
Louisiana of the first part and RUFFIN A. PITTMAN of the County of
Halifax, State of North Carolina of the other part. Witnesseth that the
said JOHN B. PITTMAN for and in consideration of the sum of Seventy five
dollars has bargained and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell
and deliver to the said RUFFIN A. PITTMAN his heirs and assigns forever
a certain tract of land on which he now resides to wit; Beginning at a
Pine at the road near M. T. WHITAKER's gin house South 48 due West 11.65
to a pine a corner thence N 42 due E 13 chains to an apple tree then
South 17.80 chains to the beginning containing Seven and one half acres
more or less to have and to hold said premises with all and every the
appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining. And I do
hereby covenant with the said R. A. PITTMAN and agree to warrant and
forever defend the right and title of the same to him the said RUFFIN A.
PITTMAN his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

residing in the City of New York formerly of Edenton North Carolina for
& in consideration of the sum of forty Thousand six hundred Dollars to
me in hand paid by DAVID CLARK, & WILLIAM M. CLARK at & before the
sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I do hereby
acknowledge have granted, bargained & sold & by these presents the
