This Indenture November the twentieth day, in the year of our lord, one thousand seven hundred & ninety two, between WILLIAM VAUGHN of the County of Hailfax in the state of North Carolina of the one part, & THOROUGHGOOD DEMPSEY of the County & State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that he the afoesaid WILLIAM VAUGHN for & in consideration of the sum of twenty four pounds, current money of the state aforesaid to him in hand paid by the aforesaid THOROUGHGOOD DEMPSEY the receipt whereof, he the said WILLIAM VAUGHN doth acknowledge & himself fully satisfied & thereof & every part thereof doth fully & clearly acquit & discharge the aforesaid THOROGOOD DEMPSEY[sic], his heirs, executors, administrators etc, by these presents have granted, alienated, bargained, sold and delivered and by these presents do bargain, sell & confirm unto the aforesaid THOROGOOD DEMPSEY his heirs, executors, administrators etc, one certain dividend or tract of land & plantation containing forty acres of land, be the same more or less, situate, lying & being on the waters of Little Quanke [sic] in Halifax County & State of North Carolina, being a part of that tract of land that the aforesaid WILLIAM VAUGHN now lives upon & bounded as followeth- Beginning at a red oak in the line of SAMUEL CORLEW, posphan?, thence along WILLIAM VAUGHAN, then East 64 pole to a black oak, then along VAUGHN's other line, North 88 poles to a red oak saplin, then West 74 poles to a white oak, then South 80 poles to a red oak saplin in CORLEW's line, then along his line to the beginning. As by the plat will more fully appear, To have and to hold the aforesaid land, and all and singular the other premises therein mentioned as intended to be hereby granted. With all and singular its rights, numbers, jurisdiction & appurtenances thereupon or thereunto belonging to the aforesaid THOROUGHGOOD DEMPSEY his heirs & assigns forever, forever and the aforesaid WILLIAM VAUGHN for himself, his heirs &c, doth covenant, grant & agree to & with the said THOROUGHGOOD DEMPSEY his heirs & assigns, that that, he the said THOROUGHGOOD DEMPSEY his heirs etc. from time to time and at all times forever hereafter, peaceably, quietly to have, hold, possess & enjoy the aforesaid land & premises herein mentioned or intended to be hereby granted without any lawful set, suit, trouble, or interruption of him the aforesaid WILLIAM VAUGHN, his heirs, excrs, administrators &c or any other person or persons whatsoever, claiming any part or parcel thereof and the aforesaid WILLIAM VAUGHN for himself, his heirs, executors, administrators, the said land & premises with the appurtenances unto the aforesaid THOROUGHGOOD DEMPSEY his heirs, executors, admrs, & assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof, he the said WILLIAM VAUGHN hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day and year first above written.
