This Indenture made this 17th of April in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred & thirty one between BENJAMIN HAWKINS of the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina of the one part & SOLOMON HAWKINS of the County & State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that I the said BENJAMIN HAWKINS for & in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to me in hand paid by the said SOLOMON HAWKINS the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained & sold & by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto SOLOMON HAWKINS his heirs & assigns forever a certain or parcel of land lying & being in the County of Halifax & State of N.C. & on the waters of Hawtree Creek & bounded as follows (viz) Beginning at hickory & maple on the bank of Hawtree Creek formerly WILLIAM GILBERT's line now JOHN LEE's then W 126 poles to a post oak formerly JAMES MATTHEWS corner now BENJA KIMBALL's then S to a pine in a slash formerly JAMES MATTHEWS corner now BENJA KIMBALL' then E to a pine then N to the first station containing one hundred acres be the same more or less with all & singular, the premises thereto belonging To have & to hold the same with the appurtenances the clear & free from the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever unto the only proper use & behoof of him the said SOLOMON HAWKINS his heirs & assigns forever. And I the said BENJAMIN HAWKINS for myself my heirs Excrs & Admrs. will forever warrant & defend the right title & interest of the above mentioned tract or parcel of Land unto the said SOLOMON HAWKINS his heirs &c. This Indenture made the 20th day of February in the year of Our Lord 1817, between HENRY HAWKINS of the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina of the one part and JARRAD WEAVER of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said HENRY HAWKINS for & in consideration of the sum of one hundred and eighty dollars to him in hand paid by the said JARRAD WEAVER, the receipt is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain & sell alien release enfeoff convey & confirm unto the said JARRAD WEAVER his heirs and assigns forever that tract or parcel of land lying & being in the county & State aforesaid, containing by estimation sixty acres be the same more or less, bounded as follows,
Beginning at a stake in FINNEY's line, thence his line S 72E 148 poles to a stake in MYRICK's line, thence his line S & E 98 poles to a white oak BLOYSE's corner, thence his line S 83 W 62 poles to BASS' corner, thence the said BASS & FINNEYs line to the beginning. Together with all & singular the privileges & advantages of the said tract of land and its appurtenances whole sixty acres be the same more or less.
To have and to hold to the said JARRAD WEAVER his heirs & assigns forever to his & their only proper use & behoof forever. And the said HENRY HAWKINS doth for himself his heirs Exrs & Admrs. covenant & agree to & with the said JARRAD WEAVER his heirs & assigns that he will warrant and forever defend the right and title of the above bargained land & premises not only against himself and his heirs but against all manner of persons whatsoever.

This Indenture made this 8th day of August eighteen hundred & eighteen. Between JOSEPH HAWKINS of the one part and the Warden of the Poor for the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina of the other part, Witnesseth that the said JOSEPH HAWKINS for & in consideration of the sum of six hundred & fifteen dollars to him in consideration of the said Wardens, the receipt whereof the said JOS. HAWKINS doth hereby acknowledge & of every part thereof doth acquit & discharged the said Wardens are successors in office and by these presents doth give grant bargain sell & enfeoff & confirm unto them the said Wardens of the Poor for the County & State aforesaid & their successors in office forever all the tract of land whereon my late father JOSEPH HAWKINS dec'd formerly lived containing one hundred & twenty three acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows, Beginning at a red oak in JAMES JONES line, then S.19 E 54 poles to a pine in said JAMES line then S. 4 W. 102 poles to a branch thence the various courses of said branch tot he mouth of a small branch thence up the said branch to stake then N.83 W. 64 poles to a corner post oak in JAMES BOZEMAN's line, thence along his line N. 10 E.95 poles, then N.20 E. 21 poles to the road then the road S. 76 E. 26 poles, then S. 86 E. 56 poles, then N.86 E. 20 poles then N. 70 E.24 poles to a stake formerly a white oak corner thence S. 27 W. 20 poles to the beginning. Together with all houses, water & ways & all other the privileges to the same belonging, to have & to hold the said land & premises and all & singular the appertenances hereby given or intended to be given granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed & confirmed unto the said Wardens of the Poor for the time being & their successors in office sufficiently saved or kept harmless indemnified & from all other gifts grants bargains sales & dowries & wills & any other encumbrance whatsoever done or suffered to be done by the said JOSEPH HAWKINS or any other person or persons. Know all men by these presents that I NANCY HAWKINS for & in consideration of the natural love & affection which I have & bear towards my nephew SOLOMON HAWKINS & for the consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by the said SOLOMON the receipt whereof I acknowledge have given granted & conveyed unto the said SOLOMON a certain piece or parcel of land lying in the county of Halifax and State of North Carolina.
Beginning at a pine JAMES MATTHEWS line, then W 80 poles to a pine & white oak in said MATTHEWS line, then S 100 poles to a spanish oak & pine in the old line, then E 80 pole to a corner pine, then N 100 poles to the first station, containing fifty acres, together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging.
And I the said NANCY HAWKINS hereby bind my self my heirs &c to warrant & forever defend the right & title of said land &c, to the said SOLOMON, his heirs &c forever.

This Indenture made this tenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty five between SAMUEL HAWKINS of the County of Halifax in the Province of North Carolina of the one part and MATTHEW GILBERT of the County and province aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said SAMUEL HAWKINS for and in consideration f the sum of ten pounds specie to him in hand paid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge myself fully satisfied and paid and therefore do acquit and discharge the said MATTHEW GILBERT his heirs &c by these presents hath bargained granted and sold by thes presents SAMUE HAWKINS his heirs &c for certain tract of land lying and being in the county of Halifax & province of North Carolina fourteen acres more or less lying on the north side of Little Fishing Creek beginning at WILLIAM GILBERT's corner on the creek running west along GILBERT's line to the creek thence down the creek to the first station as by the platt hereunto annexed doth appear together with all underwoods, waters, mines, minerals, hereditaments to the said land belonging in appertaining to hold to the said MATTHEW GILBERT his heirs and assigns forever yielding and paying to us such sums money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may direct or provide laws that to the said MATTHEW GILBERT shall cause this grant to be registered in the Registers office in this county within twelve months from this date and I SAMUEL HAWKINS of, in and to the same or any part or parcel thereof To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land & premises with the appertenances with the only proper use and behoof of the said MATTHEW GILBERT his heirs &c forever and the said SAMUEL HAWKINS for himself and his heirs the above said tract of land and every part and parcel thereof with all and every the appertenances against him his or all other persons whatsoever unto the said MATTHEW GILBERT belongs, his heirs &c forever shall & will warrant and defend by these presents. This Indenture made the twenty third day of August in the year of our Lord Christ One thousand Seven hundred and fifty three, between SOLOMON HAWKINS of Edgecombe County in the province of North Carolina planter on the one part, and WILLIAM KINCHEN JUN'R of the County and province aforesaid planter on the other part witnesseth that the said SOLOMON HAWKINS for and in consideration of the sum of fifteen pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said WILLIAM KINCHEN JUN'R the receipt whereof he doth acknowledge and thereof and every part thereof doth acquit and discharge the said WILLIAM KINCHEN his heirs Exors and admnrs. by these presents Hath given granted bargained sold aleined released enfeoffed and confirmed and doth by these presents give grant bargain sell alein release enfeoff and confirm unto the said WILLIAM KINCHEN his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract of land lying in the South side of Roanoke River in the Parish of Edgecombe and County of Edgecombe as containing two hundred & twenty acres be the same more or less to wit, Beginning at a fence in JAMES CARTER's line, then along his line So.53 E32 in RICHARD GRANDON's line, then So.60 W240 pole to a pine then No.30 W162 pole to a pine then So.60 E140 pole to a branch then down the banch to the first station, which land was granted unto WILLIAM CATHCART by Mess. JAMES JONES and FRANCIS CORBIN in behalf and in the stead of JOHN EARL Granville by deed bearing date the second day of November and the XXVI year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the second &c. Reference thereunto being first had the reversion and reversion remainder and remainders yearly rentor rents Issues and profits thereof & of every part thereof and the Estate & Estates right title trust in trust claim and demand whatsoever either in land in equity of been the said SOLOMON HAWKINS his heirs and assigns into or ext of the premises and their appurtenances and every and any art thereof To have and to hold the said tract of Land and all and singular the other hereby granted premises with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said WILLIAM KINCHEN his heirs and assigns forever, and the said SOLOMON HAWKINS covenants and grants to and with the said WILLIAM KINCHEN his heir and assigns that he hath a freed Estate in fee simple in & to the premises. And that he hath full right and lawfull forever to sell and dispose of the same, and the said SOLOMON HAWKINS binds & obliges himself his heirs Exors. Admrs and doth warrant the said Estate in deed to the premises to the said WILLIAM KINCHEN his heirs and assigns in as full pure and perfect a manner to all intents and purposes as an indefeasable Estate as fee simple can be held and expired.

This Indenture made the third day of June Annoque Domini 1755. Between SOLOMON HAWKINS of Edgecombe County in the Province of North Carolina of the one part and DAVID HAWKINS of the County and Province aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said SOLOMON HAWKINS for and in consideration of the sum of five pounds to him in hand before the ensealing and delivery of these presents by the said DAVID HAWKINS well and truly contented and paid whereof the said SOLOMON HAWKINS doth hereby acknowledge the receipt thereof every part thereof doth acquit exonerate and discharge the said DAVID HAWKINS his heirs Exors and adminrs and every of them forever by these presents hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell to the said DAVID HAWKINS all that tract of land situate and being in Edgecombe County on the North side of Quankie Pocason[sic] containing one hundred acres be the same more or less, to wit, beginning at a sweet gum on the main rn in Quankie pocason then along a line of marked trees to a black gum in the mouth of LEE's Branch then up the said branch to two poplars and a sweet gum in the fork thereof then along a line of marked trees to a pine a made corner in the old line of the survey then North to a pine then East to a red oak in PRATT's line then South 63d. E. 170 poles to an oak in Quankie Pocason then down the main run of Quankie Pocason to the first station the same being a part of a larger quantity of land bought by the aforesaid SOLOMON HAWKINS of JOS. MONTFORT as by the deed from the aforesaid JOSEPH MONTFORT to the said SOLOMON HAWKINS will more fully appear and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders and all the Estate and Estates right title interest claim or demand whatsoever either in Law or Equity of into or out of the aforesaid land and premises or any part or parcel thereof To have and to hold to the said DAVID HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever and the aid SOLOMON HAWKINS his heirs and assigns the said tract of land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said DAVID HAWKINS his heirs and assigns in manner aforesaid against him the said SOLOMON HAWKINS his heirs and assigns and all and every other person or persons lawfully claiming fro by or under him sha and will warrant and ever more defend by these presents

Witnesseth that they the said SOLOMON HAWKINS and DAVID HAWKINS for and in consideration of the sum of forty pounds lawful money of Great Britain to them in hand paid by the said WILLIAM WATSON before the ensealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof they do acknowledge and thereof and of every part thereof do acquit exonerate and discharge the said WILLIAM WATSON his executors admrs. and assigns by these presents, hath given granted, bargained, sold, and confirmed and do by these presents fully, freely and absolutely give, grant bargain, sell and confirm unto the said WILLIAM WATSON and his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel and dividend of land and plantation lying on the south side of Roanoke River in Edgecombe County containing two hundred and ten acres be the same more or less, to wit, beginning at the main run on Quankee percosson[sic] then S.23, W to a red oak in SOLOMON WILLIAMS line his corner on the pocasson[sic]then S.47, W on his line 118 po. to a white oak W.80 pole to a hickory N.290 pole to a pine E.54 pole to a red oak in PRATT's line S.63,E.170 pole to a white oak in the said percosson then through the said percosson to the main run thereof then down the said run the meanders thereof to the first station the same being the land granted to SOLOMON HAWKINS by JOSEPH MONTFORT of Edgecombe County and Province of North Carolina, gent. by deed bearing date the twenty-first day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty-four reference to the same deed being had and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders yearly rent or rents issues and profits thereof and of every part thereof with their and every their appurtenances in any ways belonging. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and plantation unto the said WILLIAM WATSON his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of the said WILLIAM WATSON his heirs and assigns forever and the said SOLOMON HAWKINS and DAVID HAWKINS do hereby jointly and severally each of them for themselves their heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns covenant promise and grant to and with the said WILLIAM WATSON his heirs, executors administrators and assigns that the above mentioned premises are free and clear from all incumbrances whatsoever and that they have full power and lawful right to sell and dispose of the same and that they the said SOLOMON HAWKINS and DAVID HAWKINS as either of their heirs or assigns or any of them shall and will at anytime and at all times hereafter the request and costs in law of him the said WILLIAM WATSON his heirs and assigns make do, suffer execute or cause to be executed, made done, suffered and executed all and every such further lawful and reasonable act or acts for the sure making or better assuming of every part and parcel therof as by the said WILLIAM WATSON his heirs or assigns his or their counsel learned in the law shall or can be devised advised or required and the said SOLOMON HAWKINS and DAVID further for themselves their heirs, executors admrs. and assigns jointly and severally hereby warrant the premises to the said WILLIAM WATSON his heirs and assigns forever in as full pure and perfect a manner to all intents and purposes as an indefeasible estate in fee simple absolute can be held or enjoyed. SMITH his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the county and state aforesaid and bounded as followed vizt- Beginning at a Black Jack in said SMITH's and HAWKINS line then S20 W 16 poles to a pine a new made corner then S68 E 31 poles to a pine said SMITHs and HAWKINS corner then along said SMITHs and HAWKINS line to the beginning- containing one and an half acres be the same more or less together with all and singular the privileges and appertenances thereunto belonging on in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold to the only proper use and behoof of him the said ELISHA B. SMITH his heir and assigns forever. And he the said SOLOMON HAWKINS as well for himself as also for his heir Exors. Adminrs and assigns doth covenant and agree to and with the said ELISHA B. SMITH that he the said SOLOMON HAWKINS at the time of making this conveyance is seized of a sure perfect & indefeasible title in and to the premises aforesaid and he doth further covenant and agree as well for himself as also for his heirs Exors Admrs and assigns to and with the said ELISHA B. SMITH his heirs Exors Admrs & assigns forever to warrant and defend the right title and Interest of the above bargained premises against the lawful claim or demand of all manners of person or persons whatsoever.

Carolina Witnesseth that that the said SOLOMON HAWKINS for & in consideration of the sum of Twenty Two Dollars to him in hand paid by the said JESSE A. ALSTON at & before the sealing & delivering of these presents the receipt whereof the said SOLOMON HAWKINS doth hereby acknowledge he the said SOLOMON HAWKINS hath granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth grant bargain & sell alien enfeoff release & confirm unto the said JESSE A. To have & to hold the aforesaid tract of land & premises with all & singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said JESSE A. ALSTON his heirs & assigns. LANE Deputy Sheriff with the undersigned freeholders unconnected to the parties by affinity or consanguinity but entirely disconnected did proceed upon the premises after being duly sworn to lay off & allot to MRS. FANNY HAWKINS widow of SOLOMON HAWKINS dec'd her dower or one third part of the lands of her deceased husband & we the Jurors do report & say that her dower shall be confined within the following to Wit Beginning at a post oak WASHINGTON MABREY's corner & running S12 E, 83 pole to an ash on Hawtree Creek then up the meanders thereof to an ash & sweet gum on a path then along said path S25E 12 pole then S41 E, 18 pole then S30E, 25 pole then S4E, 12 pole to a black gum & persimmon on a small branch then up the said branch S51E, 15 pole to a pine then E45 pole to a pointed corner one dogwood &c then North 155 pole to a pointed corner white oak and(?)oak & thence West 80 poles to the beginning containing Sixty sever acres including the mansion house & other out houses. This Indenture made this 8th day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty four between THOMAS HEATH of the County of Halifax in the province of North Carolina of the one part and SAMUEL HAWKINS of the Couunty and province aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said THOMAS HEATH for and in consideration of the sum of ten pounds cash paid in hand the right whereof I do hereby acknowledge myself full satisfied and paid and therefore do acquit and discharge the said SAMUEL HAWKINS his heirs Excrs &c by these presents hath bargained granted and sold and by these presents THOMAS HEATH his heirs and assigns for one certain tract of land lying and being in the county of Halifax in the province of North Carolina fourteen acres be the same more or less lying in the North side of Little Fishing Creek beginning at WILLIAM GILBERT's corner on the creek running West in GILBERT's line to the Creek then down the creek to the first station as by the platt hereunto annexed doth appear together with all woods waters mines minerals hereditaments & appertenances to the said land belonging or appertaining To hold to the said SAMUEL HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time shall direct provided laws that the said SAMUEL HAWKINS shall cause this grant to be registered in the registers office of our said county of Halifax within twelve months from the date hereof and I THOMAS HEATH of in and to the same or any part or parcel thereof to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and premises with the appertenances with the only proper use and behoof of the said SAMUEL HAWKINS his heirs and assigns forever and the said THOMAS HEATH for himself and his heirs the above said tract or parcell of land with all and every the appertenances against him his or all other persons whatsoever unto the said SAMUEL HAWKINS belongs his heirs or assigns forever defend by these presents in witness whereof the said THOMAS HEATH hath hereto set his hand and fixed his seal this day.

To have & to hold the same lands & premises & all & singular the tenements hereditaments woods, ways, waters, mines & minerals &c thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to him the said THOS. P. MATTHEWS his heirs & assigns forever. And the said STEPHEN HEDGEPETH & his heirs all & singular the premises hereby conveyed to the said T. P. This Indenture made on the 25th day of June 1842 between THOMAS HEDGEBETH of the County & State aforesaid of the first part & JOSEPH L. SIMMONS of the same County & State of the second part Witnesseth that whereas the said THOMAS HEDGEBETH is pretty indebted to the said JOSEPH L. SIMMONS in the sum of fifty dollars duly account & whereas the said THOMAS HEDGEBETH is honestly desirous to secure the payment of the said debt. Now therefore this Indenture witnesseth that for & in consideration of the premises together with the farther consideration of the sum of one dollar to the said THOMAS HEDGEBETH in hand paid by the said JOSEPH L. SIMMONS the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged in full the said THOMAS HEDGEBETH hath granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth grant bargain & sell unto the said JOSEPH L. SIMMONS the following property Viz nine head of hogs, one black mare, one cart four bee g???, plantation utensils, house hold & kitchen furniture also his present coop now growing to the said JOSEPH L. SIMMONS his heirs & assigns forever free & discharged from all & any incumbrances whatever in special trust & confidence nevertheless that the said JOSEPH L. SIMMONS shall & will hold keep use & apply the same to the uses & intent following no other that is to say that if the aforesaid debt & every part thereof together with the lawful interest that may have accrued on the same shall not be fully paid off & satisfied on or before the 25th day of December 1842 then & in that case it shall be lawful & he the said JOSEPH L. SIMMONS may sell all or any part of the property herein conveyed after advertising ten days at three or more public places & out of the moneys or proceeds of such sale to retain all the necessary expenses of the trust & then pay off & discharge the said debt & interest or such part thereof as shall remain unpaid at the time of said sale & the overplus if any shall truly & faithfully return to the said THOMAS HEDGEPETH[sic] his Executors or Administrators. This Indenture made this ninth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & thirty two between HERBERT HICKS of the first part JESSE JOHNSTON of the second part & THOMAS C. WILLIS of the third part all of the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina. Witnessesth that whereas I the said HERBERT HICKS is firstly indebted to THOMAS C. WILLIS in the sum of seventeen dollars in a judgment with interest from the 11th of April 1829
& cost $1.80 and the said HERBERT HICKS is desirous to secure & pay the said THOS. C. WILLIS and whereas JESSE JOHNSTON have been chosen for the purpose hereafter mention. Now this Indenture witnesseth that I the said HERBERT HICKS for & in consideration of the premises & the further sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by JESSE JOHNSTON the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained sold & conveyed and by these presents do bargain sell convey & confirm unto the said JESSE JOHNSTON his heirs & assigns forever one tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County of Halifax & State of North Carolina containing by estimation forty acres be the same more or less and being the same whereon I the sd HICKS now lives adjoining the land of WILLIAM MILLS, KINCHEN TONY & others. To have & to hold the same tract or parcel of land together with all the appurtenances & tenants belonging & all the right title or claim of him the said HERBERT HICKS to the same unto him the said JESSE JOHNSTON. Nevertheless the Indenture is upon this condition that if the said HERBERT HICKS shall fail to pay the above mentioned sum then & in that case it shall be lawful & full power & authority as hereby given unto said JESSE JOHNSTON whenever requested by the said THOS. C. WILLIS his heirs Exors. Adm'rs or assigns to sell the said tract or parcel of land at public sale for ready money after giving ten ten days previous notice thereof and out of the proceeds of such sale to pay to the said THOS. C. WILLIS the aforesaid sum of money & all lawful interest arising therefrom together with on cost charges & expenses attending such sale & for the execution of this Trust and the balance if any to return to the said HERBERT HICKS his heirs &c. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands & affixed our Seals the day & year above written.
