Would like to correspond with anyone researching the surname CORBETT in New Hanover County. The CORBETTS are found on the 1742 New Hanover Co. Tax List up to the 1763 Tax List. I believe my James CORBETT who first appears in the 1769 Brunswick Co. Tax List may be related to the CORBETTS in New Hanover.

Looking for information about: John MATTHEWS, Rev. Soldier (Corporal, 1776-1780); died intestate in Wilmington District before 1783 leaving bounty land, etc. to heir Luke Matthews (maybe identical with my ancestor Luke MATTHEWS of Martin Co., NC). I'm searching for any estate records regarding the John MATTHEWS estate, and I found deed records in Onslow Co. showing a John MATTHEWS there in the late 1770s, so I suspect he may have lived and died in Onslow. Seeking any proof regarding where the administrator/heir of estate lived (i.e. Luke). Thanks so much for any direction or guidance you might be able to help out with, and thanks in advance for your time. Sincerely,

The following obituary notice appeared in the April 16, 1907 issue of the Smiths Falls, Ontario Rideau Record: "Mr. James ALLEN, a former resident of Toledo, Leeds County, passed away recently at Little River, S.C. His home was in Wilmington, N.C. and the body was taken there for internment. The Wilmington Star in a report of his death, states that Mr. Allen was one of the best known millwrights in that State. He was a man of genial disposition, kind hearted and true, and was the friend of everyone. He was 74 years of age and is survived by his wife, two daughters and three sons. The deceased was an uncle of Mr. Herbert Allen of Smiths Falls". James is my 2nd great-grand uncle and am anxious to contact any members of his family to exchange genealogical information. I recently found out from the Atlanta Historical Society that my husband's great grandfather, John S. BENJAMIN, died in Wilmington, N.C. in 1889. He had been a long time resident of Atlanta, but I think he had family in Wilmington. Rumor has it that he was somehow related to the famous Confederate statesman Judah P. Benjamin, a cabinet member under Jefferson Davis. I have not been able to make the connections so far, but in researching Judah Benjamin, I found that his family lived partly in Wilmington, which is interesting. I was wondering if anyone knows about any other Benjamins in Wilmington, and how they may be related to John S. BENJAMIN. I don't yet know the names of his parents. Thank you.

I am seeking information on the descendents Abram DEVAUGHN born in Jonesboro, Georgia in 1850. He is believed to have settled in Wilmington, NC sometime after 1870. Also seeking information on a William DeVaughn who was born in Wilmington, NC about 1868. He moved to Birmingham, Alabama and apparently lost contact with the NC family. Looking for the names of siblings and mulatto.
