I have copies of several pages from New Hanover CO. Courthouse, dated starting around 1740. Several occupations are listed; i.e. carpenter, planter, merchant, ship carpenter, etc. Did the ship carpenters work on their own or did they work for a company? If a company, where could I find a list of the workers? I would be ever so grateful for your help.

LEWIS, SPOONER, TAYLOR, WARD GGrandmother Henrietta James Taylor Lewis died in Wilmington July 4, 1936(7?) and her daughter Myrtyl was placed in the county home shortly afterwards (she was retarded -her Dad called her scrimp). The notes we have say her home was in Hilton but gives no indication if this was NC or another state. We can't figure out who her husband was. Dad says that he remembers being told that he was called Dock (Lewis) by his own choice - this was not his given name

JEANNERET-CHICKEN - I am told that Elias JEANNERET left a will in New Hanover NC on 10-9-1762 in which he left his entire estate to Margaret CHICKEN and her children. Margaret was apparently the widow of my many great uncle Thomas CHICKEN of Santee, Craven Co, SC. Does anyone know more about Elias JEANNERET and have a copy of his will? Did any of the CHICKEN family settle in New Hanover Co?

Would like to correspond with anyone who has access to c1800 map of New Hanover/Duplin or road records which might give road names. My current DeLorme NC atlas shows the road running south from Cypress Creek in Duplin Co. into Pender as "Blacksmith Shop Road". The signs say "Cypress Creek Rd." My BUTLER line lived in the Cypress Creek area and gg-gf Elijah was a blacksmith there. Elijah BUTLER was in the Duplin Co 1840 census, 1850 New Hanover, and 1860 Duplin - perhaps enumerated at home in Duplin and at shop in New Hanover (area now Pender). Also looking for any info at all on Jesse R. HENDERSON who m. Elijah BUTLER's dau Mary Amanda. Jesse born c 1832, died in VA Mar 1863. Charlie Weaver Winston-Salem, NC 336-765-9635
