COLLET, COLLETT posted by Lydia Collett on Saturday, January 9, 1999

The career of Capt. John Abraham COLLET (COLLETT) has been written about extensively because of the maps that he provided of North Carolina and his work as governor of Fort Johnston, at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, in the mid to late 1700s. He was a British captain and Swiss military engineer.

Capt. Collet's work for the King required his presence in NC at different times during a twelve-year period. We know that his mother lived in Geneva, but we have not found records of his marriage or family in NC, or anywhere.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might know of any records available from Fort Johnston or surrounding areas during the time period noted above.

Thank you.
