Tyrrell County, North Carolina Processioner's Book |
The purpose of processioning was to confirm the boundaries
of each person's land. Neighbors often were present at the processioning of common
boundaries. The information recorded by the processioners of each
district varies from being a simple list of the landowners whose land was processioned and
the amount of land owned to a listing that includes metes and bounds, neighbors,
etc. A few even identify relationships.
The processioner's book is broken into three parts for display purposes only. All names
recorded in the book are indexed. The index includes the apparent tax lists in the front
and back. The pages on which the name in the index appears are also listed, as is the
number of times the name appears on that page.
Just click on the page you want to go to that is listed next to the name in the index
and you will go to that page in the processioner's book. Use your browser's BACK button to return to
the index where you left it. You can also go to the processioner's book and read it from
the beginning to the end.
