This census was reported by Head of Family and is broken down in the
following manner:
Every attempt has been made to enter this data as exactly as recorded by
the census taker. Even obvious spelling errors are not corrected,
therefore you may find some exciting new spelling of your family name since the
census taker used phonics; for example: Felps versus Phelps. For
purposes of readability, zeros have been substituted for blanks in numeric
columns.
Several problems were encountered which made transcribing this data error prone.
Some of the microfilm was damaged, thus making it difficult to decipher.
The handwriting made it difficult to distinguish between "c", "e" and "i"
and between "a", "o" and "u". Most names for which there is some question are
flagged with a "?".
To reduce the possibility of errors, the transciption was checked against the original records at the National Archives by an independent party, and against the 1810 NC Census Index. The totals for each column were checked which led to some corrections and in other cases merely pointed out errors in the original census totals. If you find a discrepency between the actual census and this data, please let me know so this data can be corrected.
