He lived in Martin Co in 1790, Craven Co in 1800, and Washington County, NC after 1800. He married a woman by the name of Mary. ![]() While researching Norfolk Co., VA Marriage Bonds, I came across this one for Zachariah OWENS & Miss Ann JEFFERSON dated 9 November 1817. Since it was not uncommon for people from northeastern NC to marry someone from southeastern VA, I wonder if he was one of the Currituck Co. or Tyrrell Co. OWENS. Zachariah was certainly a popular Owens name. Can anyone shed any light on this marriage?
![]() This is for anyone researching the line of John OWENS who wrote his will 16 Sep 1748 in Tyrrell Co., NC or Adam OWENS who was born ca. 1748 and d. 1802 in Tyrrell Co., NC. I am thrilled to be able to share this information. After 15 years of searching, I have found proof that Adam was John's son. An Orphan bond in 1764 appoints Thomas OWENS his guardian and states that Adam is the son of the deceased John OWENS. All of John's children were under the age of 18 when he wrote his will, so I don't know who their original guardian was, possibly John's wife Ann but most likely a male relative or friend. Anyone wanting more information can email me, I will be happy to share.
![]() I have seen several trees that claim John OWENS (b. ca 1704 - d. ca 1750) was married to Ann STEVENS but I have not seen a source. I have asked the submitters of these trees where they got her name but no one has responded to me. I have been researching this OWENS line for over 20 years and I have nothing but the first name of Ann. Does anyone know the source of her being Ann STEVENS. In 1728 John OWENS is in Pasquotank Co. This is just before Tyrrell Co. was created. "John MIXON of Pasquotank Co. to John OWENS of same. 6 Apr 1728. 40 pounds. 210 acres in Pasquotank Precinct on east side of Allegator River, joining Geo. WHEDBY, Sypress Swamp."
