COX/WESCOTT
23 November 1997 FROM khaugan@exis.net (Kathryn Haugan)

MAHALA (MELSON) WESCOTT married JAMES COX in Tyrrell Co. 1831. They had two children I know of, JEREMIAH WESCOTT COX (b. 1836, d. 1904) and MAHALA COX (b. 1838). JEREMIAH at age 14 lived with JOHN and FRANCIS SPRUILL. MAHALA lived with JOHN and ANGELICO SANDERSON. (1850 census) JEREMIAH WESCOTT COX is my mother's mother's father. He married CARY ANN BALFOUR in Tyrrell Co. in 1864, and they lived in the Scuppernong area until the late 1800's, when they moved to Mann's Harbor. Any information on MAHALA WESCOTT or JAMES COX would be appreciated, as well as the SPRUILL and SANDERSON families their children were living with.

CRADDOCK
23 June 1999 FROM sawyerj@beachlink.com (Marsha Sawyer)

My Great-Great Grandfather on my mother's side of the family, was James CRADDOCK from Tyrrell County. He moved to Manns Harbor with only his daughter, Julia, then married Jane MANN of Manns Harbor. They had only one child together, James Conner, which is my great-grandfather. We have found where James CRADDOCK of Tyrrell had a family with his first wife Elizabeth on an 1860 census record. Our family would like to know more about his first family. Why didn't they come with James CRADDOCK when he moved to Manns Harbor? Did his first wife die? What about the children that he left behind, George Henry, Henrietta, and Benjamin? No one knows anything of the family that he left behind. If you know any information that could help us, it would be greatly appreciated.
