HATFIELD
14 February 1999 FROM vidales@worldnet.att.netvidales@worldnet.att.net(Carol L. Vidales)

Jesse HATFIELD married Lucretia GILES (JYLES/JILES/GYLES) about 1826 in Washington or Tyrrell County. Jesse is a head of household in the 1830 Washington Co. census. He died about 1833. They had 4 children:
1. Lucy - born about 1826, married John FURLOUGH (in the 1850 Washington Co. census with children Eliza & Hardy).
2. Charles Henry - born about 1829, died during War Between The States.
3. Lovie Elizabeth - 1831-1881, married 1852 in Washington Co. to Nicodemus BATEMAN (my gg grandparents).
4. Wilson Martin - 1833-? married 1860 in Washington Co. to Mary Jane BASNIGHT.
I think Jesse was the son of Jesse HATFIELD Jr. & Fanny SPRUILL, who were married 1792 in Tyrrell Co. Jesse Jr. died before Dec 1800, when Fanny remarried to Nathan BATEMAN (son of John, Tyrrell will 1788 & Bethia BATEMAN). This Jesse Jr. was the son of Jesse HATFIELD Sr., will 15 Oct 1804 Tyrrell Co. Other children of Jesse Sr. were:
Miles HATFIELD - died before Oct 1804
Esther HATFIELD - married 1792 to Eli BRINKLEY
William HATFIELD - married 1794 Sarah SPRUILL
John HATFIELD - married 1803 Sary SPRUILL (their dau. Julia 1806-1886 married Gideon LAMB & is buried in Tyrrell Co. by her son Wm. F. LAMB)
Ann HATFIELD - married Asa PARSONS
Is anyone researching this HATFIELD family?

I am looking for the connections between the SPRUILLs and the HATFIELDs in the latter half of the 1700s. Specifically what is the relationship between Thomas, Sary, William, Jeremiah, Benjamin, Sarah and Frances SPRUILL. I believe Sarah, Frances and Sary married into the HATFIELDs and would be interested in any information about any of Jesse HATFIELDs siblings, ancestors or descendants. Thank you.

HATHAWAY
24 June 2003 FROM michaellebarron206@msn.com(michael)

Looking for ancestors of Charles HATHAWAY, his wife sylvia, his two sons, Jordan and Miles, and their two wives. Jordan married Adaline (aaline) Norman and Miles married Phebbia Cowand. Charles' wife Sylvia's maiden name was DAVIS or HASSEL. Charles appears to have been owned by Charles Spruill, and passed to his wife Mary in his will dated 1814. In 1818 Mary passed him on to her neice, Fanny HATHAWAY. Apparently this is where the surname HATHAWAY came from. Fanny's children were Woolsley, Benjamin, Joseph and William. I cannot definitely trace Charles and his wife through the children. William worked for the PETTIGREWs as an overseer as did a David DAVENPORT. Charles appears in the 1860 census living next to David DAVENPORT. If anyone could fill in any of the many holes, I would greatly appreciate the help

HUSSEY
23 July 2008 FROM foblount4468@gmail.com(Francis Blount)

I'm looking for information on Frank N HUSSEY, my wife's grandfather, who lived in Tyrrell County from 1889 till his death ca. 1899. He married Alice Hopkins JONES, widow of Barlett JONES, and fathered six children while in the County. He was a Steamship Captain, licensed in Boston, and Norfolk. He won a four year contract in 1888 to deliver the mail along the Alligator River, originating in Elizabeth City with stops at Fort Landing, Alligator, East Lake landing, Grapevine landing, and Fairfield. He delivered the mail twice a week.
The Norfolk Southern Railroad owned a steamboat that operated along the Aligator river during this period named the "Martha E. Dickerman". Was the Dickerman the mailboat and was Frank Hussey the Captain? Also, it is said that Frank HUSSEY operated a Saw Mill and a Grist Mill in Gum Neck. I'm looking for proof that Frank was the Captain of the mailboat "Martha E Dickerman" and would like to have a picture of the boat at one of these landings. Since cameras where not a household item at the time, maybe someone painted a picture of the ship.
There was another Hussey in the County at the time, He was George HUSSEY and his wife was Clinnie. They owned the Combs/Hussey House in Columbia for a cople of years. Was there any connection between these two men?

I think it was J. Tom SWINDELL. My mother, Mildred LUPTON, was born in 1902. Her brothers were named Otis LUPTON and Cromwell LUPTON. I am 76 years old now and have not been back to Columbia in about 20 years. I know a Virginia Ann & Marion BRICKHOUSE that have recently moved back to Columbia and I believe Ida GIBBS, who lived in Columbia just passed away this year. Any information that you have on the above mentioned people would be greatly appreciated or if you could put me in the right direction as to whom to contact it also would be greatly appreciated. My father Cal GIBBS I think was born in Creswell, NC. My grandmother on my fathers side was named Indiana GIBBS and her father was Robert Carson GIBBS. Looking forward to hearing from you. 17 October 2000 FROM edbell@htcomp.net (Edgar Bell, Jr.)

Looking for identity of parents, siblings of Sarah LYONS. Sarah married Thomas PAYNE in Tyrrell County on 21 Jan 1823. Her birth year is probably c. 1802- 05. She possibly had a sister named Nancy. Thank you for any replies.
