ADAMS/ALLEN
24 August 2013 FROM john@patsysales.com(John Collins)

In researching the history of the oldest documented house in NC, built in Edenton in 1719, I have found that the land on which it now sits was sold for £300 (a substantial price which indicates the presence of a house) on March 31, 1785 by three residents of Tyrrell County: Thomas EVERITT, Henry ALLEN & Elizabeth ADAMS. EVERITT appears to have moved from Chowan to Tyrrell between the 1782 & 1784 tax lists; ALLEN is in the 1782 list as owning a house in Edenton worth £100; ADAMS is in the 1782 list. I am seeking confirmation that this Elizabeth ADAMS is the Elizabeth ALLEN who married James ADAMS on April 14, 1762; am looking for her family connection with Henry ALLEN; and am looking for how Thomas EVERITT is connected to the other two co-owners.

ALEXANDER
24 August 2002 FROM dearnerve@aol.com(Chris Meekins)

Hello, I could use a hand sorting out the Sally ALEXANDERS in Tyrrell. I have finally pushed by my MEEKINS brickwall and am faced with the ALEXANDER problem. My Sarah ALEXANDER married Thomas MEEKINS in 1795. Census material indicates that she was born between 1770 and 1774. My initial foray into the ALEXANDERs shows me many Sarah's and not a few who are candidates. If anyone knows which Sarah married Thomas MEEKINS I would be very greatful for that information. Conversely, if you have a Sarah that you have pinpointed parents and husband it may well help me eliminate the multiple Sarahs and find mine - any information is appreciated.

ALEXANDER
27 January 2003 FROM barbdiemer@worldnet.att.net(Barbara Diemer)

Am trying to determine if there is a connection between my Alexander family and the Alexanders of early Tyrrell Co. Isaac ALEXANDER was b. ca 1814 (place and parents unknown). He was m. ca 1838 (place unknown) to Mary B. (Barber?). They must have been on the move, as they have children purportedly b. AL, LA, MS and AR. Isaac is in Jefferson Co., AL 1830 and 1840; in Lafayette Co., AR 1850 and in Sabine Co., TX in 1860 (the last census where I can locate them). ALEXANDER/DAVENPORT
23 March 2004 FROM haroldns@aol.com(D. Harold Davenport)

I have a deed dated Sept.8, 1859 in which my great grandparents James Madison DAVENPORT and his wife Celia Ann Spruill DAVENPORT sell a one-half share in the undivided lands of Gideon ALEXANDER, dec. to Jesse DAVIS. This deed is in the Washington County Courthouse. Gideon ALEXANDER's will is in the Tyrrell Courthouse. His will gives his widow, Mary, lifetime rights to the land she lives on. Gideon died in 1839 and his will was probated in 1840. From census records he would have been between 70 and 80 when he died. His will lists daughters Mary, Fanny, Nancy and Clarky. From Tyrrell county marriage bonds none of these ladies married a DAVENPORT. At least the first time. James Madison DAVENPORT's mother was named Nancy and when Gideon ALEXANDER died she was 55. If Gideon was closer to 80 than 70 when he died she could have been his daughter. Nancy ?? DAVENPORT died before 1860 and this probablly explains why her son was selling the share. Do any of my Alexander cousins have any light they could shed on this mystery? D. Harold Davenport

Julia's parents also were from seafaring families: John ARMSTRONG, sailor, and Mary SWAIN, whose family also had had whaling ships in Nantucket. Can anyone help me with Daniel FISHER's family? AYERS/AYRES/AIRES/HAIRES
8 March 2000 FROM prytherch@cconnect.net (Jo ROBERSON Prytherch)

I am looking for the parents of Richard AYERS (AYRES, AIRES, HAIRES, etc.), father of James Stanley AYERS of Martin County. MARTIN COUNTY HERITAGE gives David AYERS, Jr. of that county as Richard's father, but the age difference makes that doubtful. A Richard E. AYERS, of the part of Tyrell County that became Bertie County, who was young enough to be the son of Richard AYERS fought in the War Between the States. It is possible that Richard E. was a son of Richard from an earlier marriage, a nephew or some other relative. Any help in making a connection would be appreciated.
