Andrew Johnston
President of the
United States
The petition of
John C. Duckworth of Transylvania Co. N.C.
respectfully represents unto your Excellency
that possessing little political knowledge was
to a small extent influenced by the trill [?]
of secession at the commencement of the late
rebellion and accepted the office of Post
Master at Catheys Creek in said county under
the pretended authority of the so called
Confederate States government but I now seeing
the impropriety of the relution returned to the
union party and has prompy acted with it ever
since that he was truly and sincerely returned
to is allegiance to the government of the
United States and intends hense forth to be a
true and loyal Citizen thereof.
Your petitioner
is aware that he is excluded from the benefit
of your Excellencys amnesty Proclamation dated
the 29th of May A.D. 1865 and
hense he prays your Excellency to grant unto
him a special pardon for such participation in
said rebellion And your petitioner will ever
pray
